Just a few weeks ago our 2007 double axel trailer decided to lock up the surge brakes when going in reverse. We have used the handy little tool provided by Basscat but now it seems we have to use it almost every time we back up. Can someone advise what may have triggered this and what we need to do to get it right? Thanks

Mine does that often and every time I take the connection to the truck and wiggle it around or remove and reenter and it corrects the problem, I guess it just isnt making good contact.BAYOU BANDIT

That is usually from what samrush said. I had that happen on my old trailer from time to time. If your plug isnt connected the brakes will lock and you cant back up. Make sure you have a plug that uses all the prongs… If you have a 4 prong on your truck and a 5 on the trailer hookup this could be your problem. Look over your wiring i bet it is in the plugs.

Mine has done this about 3 or 4 times in my 9 years of ownership and every time it has been the Fuse on my Truck for the reverse lights. If that fuse blows your brakes will not release because that is what the brakes on the boat trailer are tied into. I have a 1999 GMC Sierra and a 2007 GMC Yukon and both of them have the same setup. It is most often the solenoid on the trailer is faulty. You can verify the reverse lights not working by turning the plus sideways and plugging the brown wire into the pin for reverse lock out, that is the blue wire pin, then turn on your parking lights and try to back up. If you they lock out using the brown wire to blue wire with parking lights on, then you have a bad pin, wire or reverse signal for the solenoid. These are the only factors that are easily an issue. Thanks to everyone for your help. We did indeed have a wiring issue. Too bad we didnt find it until AFTER we had taken the darn thing apart!! WARNING, WARNING – dont take the hitch apart unless ABSOLUTELY necessary!!! Quite a wrestling match. But we won and hopefully have the issue resolved. Thanks again for all the advise. Can always depend on the Basscat family.
