04 cougar with smartcraft v 22.22. A10 panel to switch from right and left tank. Right tank gauge works fine but left side gauge always reads empty. Have done the ohm meter test on the sending unit and it comes around 240 ohms when full and 40 ohms when empty. Ran a new ground wire, still always reads empty or low fuel. What am I missing or should i just change the sending unit?
Thanks for any help.
It’s either
1. relay in the dash
2. A bad connection on yellow wires in the AMP plug
3. Wire never connected right in the AMP plug
4. Yellow Wire in the unit not connected well to the sender.
Try reversing the tank connections and see if the right wire operate the left sender, and vice Versa.
I’m not sure if this relates to your situation, but the kicker tank on my 13 P2 reads empty all the time now.
Took it to the Dealer for some other work and asked them to check the gauge because it was always reading empty, even after I filled it up.
He installed a new unit, checked that it was working before installing it, but still read empty. Emptied the tank, then refilled but still no change.
Turns out, the liner is collapsing inward & is holding the float down on the sending unit and not letting it work properly.
The hole in the top of the tank is too close to the edge.
Thank you for the replies. I am fairly confident that it has to be a connection somewhere because I get correct ohm readings off the sending unit at full and empty, which indicates that the float is moving. Connections at the sending unit are good, which turns me to the relay, and the AMP plug. The relay I am guessing is a component on the A10 board. Where is the Amp plug located?
Thanks again
Rob
I did jumper my the lead from the left tank to the sender on the right tank and still says empty. Now I am actually getting a “fuel fault” error instead of just the empty tank reading. I will do a little research in my smartcraft manual to see if I can differentiate the difference between the those 2 messages.

What years your rig? My 10g kicker in my 16 caracal some times give strange readings depending on fill level. It takes the nema connection a long time to populate the level when switching between the two tanks. I dont have a mechanical fuel gauge.

It has to be 1 ,2 or 3. I see no yellow wires coming to the amp plug. Could they be a different color. There looks to be several relays on back side of the A10, Which one is the relay that would be suspect?

It’s a 2013 and both the fuel & NextLink guage both read empty.
