Love my Puma with 225 ProXS and 26 Fury….turning 5700 rpms at 74.9 mph. Performs great all around. Would my top end suffer by swapping to a 25 Fury to get the rpms up? Is 5700 rpms okay for the ProXS?
Congrats on your finish and AOY achievement! Also, good on the conversion Judd Lasiter
txmrbass, Congratulations on that AoY award! Those are nice accolades to have in your archive! BCB
Congratulations! Any time you win AOY youve had a great year. Glad the Kickapoo deal worked out for you. Always fish there, just a pain in the rear to get there from the main lake. Good luck next time as well!
I am glad you could get them bass to hook up on topwater…
I would leave as is until you see what it does this summer. You might be down in the 5500 rpm range and lose a couple mph or more, but youll have to wait and see. Ive always thought that optimum rpms for Optimax Pro XS engines are between 5800-5900 rpms. Of course theyll be a little higher in the winter and a little lower in the summer. 74.9 is pretty good.
Good advice. Hate to mess with something that is working just fine. Ill see what happens when it gets 100 degrees this summer.
Phil, you and I know this thing will be a Dog come Summer. To much prop for two riders. Especially in our Southern Summers. GlynnLast edited by NELA COUGAR on February 12th, 2009, 9:04 am, edited 1 time in total.

76.7 w/Trophy, 77.7 w/ Fury ! P.A. driving,,,,,,,no dog, but now carrying the store it is a bit slower.
I wa running my cougar with a 225 opti/ 27p trophy at those speeds. I live on the gulf coast. Thats one fast ass dog to me!
You guys arent comparing apples to apples. Your also not carrying a load with two riders! Also Im not calling Clints Puma a Dog. Just a figure of speech for you A$$E$ that thought that!!!!!!! GlynnLast edited by NELA COUGAR on February 12th, 2009, 8:17 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Nela C. I hear what youre saying. I think it varies from rig to rig. My last boat registered highest on the GPS in July on Toledo @ same rpms…I could not tell any difference during the Winter time, but I have been in boats that “dog” in the heat. I guess the real question I should ask is…Would a 25 Fury be faster loaded than the 26 Fury on my rig? Heck, whether it is a team tourney or draw, I always have someone with me. I just hate to part with the prop I have if Ill lose top end. Only real way to know is to try one. Honestly, 72+ loaded on a Puma with a 225 seems pretty good to me, be hard to believe dropping a pitch would make it any faster…just might be better easier on the motor Id guess. Ive tinkered with props for years now, and I know what it means to be over pitched. I feel like the 26 Fury is right at the edge of being over- propped on my rig loaded….thats why I posed the question.
Clint, I guess the the best of both worlds would be to have a 25 and a 26. No matter what, your rig is running great right now. I was just thinking a 25 for when youre loaded in the Summer would keep you close to where you are now, without lugging the engine. Thats all I meant, period! Glynn
