Really different look for Evinrude but if you paint it black it is pretty similar to a Verado.Jim EbarbMany, LA (Toledo Bend Lake)2004 Cougar/ 225 OptimaxHumminbird Helix 12 Chirp SI on BalzOut Mount at bowLowrance HDS 7 at bowHumminbird Helix 12 Mega SI on Ram Mount at ConsoleLowrance HDS 8 in dash at console

There is an article about on the FLW site.
Reading through this thread just creates a tremendous amount of discomfort within me. I have watched and listened to all of the E-tec bashing for the past few years, and sat on the sidelines without a response, and never really shared my story. Briefly, I ran Johnson/Evinrude products for 42 years, and then E-tec. I had two E-tecs, of which one was bad, and the other was a nightmare. There were multiple powerheads and lower units, and I am a recreational angler who is extremely easy on a motor. It is not a very secure feeling when you leave the launch, and just hope that you make it back without motor failure. Anyhow, with this re-design, looks are not going to impress me, nor will high tech new gadgetry like digital gauges, dash control of hotfoot/hand throttle and built in power steering. Track record over a year or two might, but, frankly, another BRP outboard to a person like me would be a near impossible sell. And I am sure there are a good deal of boat owners out there who have had similar experiences and feel the same way. The energy around a new or newly designed product is exciting, but I would encourage a high degree of caution with this one. Competition and innovation are good for the consumer, and, good luck to BRP to try and re-establish themselves in this market.
How about a lower unit that holds together????????? But I guess at least I can color coordinate!!!! Really!?!
Im optomistic. Auto trim, steering assist. Are you kidding me. Sounds like they took a playbook right out of my cockpit! I thought they separated all these companies. Only time will tell. They need to put some out there in a hurry and get some time behind them. I wish them good fortunes.
Ive seen at least an hour of brp video at this point.Has the word “reliable” been used once? No. This group of bozos reminds me of everyone else in our lives that never want to take responsibility head on and own an error and rise above. Original 250 3.4 L- 3 years no maint(bull) 300 hours no maint(uh sparkplugs?) 100:1 oil (miserable failure) orginally Fastest outboard(til you added knock sensor and tps changes cause you didnt check fuel consumption vs 35 year old designed fuel bulb) Fastest lower unit(til they got so bad they took em all back for free) G2 5 years no maint(hmmm….seems familiar?) 500 hours no maint(hmmm…again) 2 gal oil in 200 hrs(seems like Ive seen this?) Same gears with more complex shifter?(uhhhh…..l2s cratered, sle cratered- same gears) But hey you can pick your colors though right? Just dont get not having balls to own previous issues and focus on reasons for failure- Evinrude HAS to rebrand reliability not looks, performance, or anything else. The video I have see this far is gutless.Last edited by clownshoes on June 18th, 2014, 4:00 am, edited 2 times in total.C.O.D. Jr. III
Hmmmmmmmm….. Interesting: I like what Im seeing and do think there is advancement being released from BRP. Yamaha SHO got it started four years ago with the first four stroke that meet two stroke performance standards on a four stroke engine. Their initial release that was a major success by any standard. IN GENERAL No engine is perfect but by comparison they hit it out of the park. We can stay where we are or push forward in the boating world. Innovation is good and BRP is touting some provocative benchmarks. Like BassCat time will tell. Ive never been one to stay satisfied with the my dads 57 Chevy and by comparison I like my new F150. Same goes for my boating. Kudos to BRP for pushing the envelop. In a parallel universe cant wait to see what BassCat brings out at the dealer meeting. Here are things that stands out to me with Etec G2:1. More torque with Better fuel efficiency. Im quite impressed seeing that big heavy walleye boat jump out of the hole. No one can deny that!2. Electric Power Steering3. Hand to hoot foot electronic throttle switching. Now that is cool and something different. 4. BRP making a big statement saying their two stroke will burn less oil then a four stroke. By default (two gallons every two hundred hours) thats a big statement. Who wouldnt want to pay MSRP $100 over two years or two hundred hours for oil. Wow!5. Evinrudes new LCD gauge display is signal analog gauges are on their last leg.The new cowling design has really grown on me and in contrast makes current cowlings look booooorrrrrringggg!!!! The color combination ability is a nice twist that offers endless options to match BassCat industry best looking graphics IMO. Not the biggest things but a nice twist. In the end everyone has opinions, experiences and choices. Throw darts, pay kudos just glade we can still do that. With a topic that is now approaching 9,000 views Now Hmmmmm….. thats interesting.Last edited by Flyswatter on June 18th, 2014, 1:04 pm, edited 1 time in total.
