New Puma FTD broke in and experiencing what I think is blowout on hole shot. When boat starts to level out as it goes onto plane motor hits rev limiter. Back off throttle or wait a few seconds and prop finds bite and all is well. Trim is completely down and Atlas hydraulic jack plate has been tried completely down and set at height that gives best top end speed. Boat runs 74 with full fuel and 2 fat fishermen. Mercury 250 with fury 26 no plug and dual pp with full load of fuel and tackle. Any suggestions? Question for BCB, what is the setup on a manual jack plate for a puma FTD out of the factory?

Mine does that as well. If you let off the throttle slightly right when the boat is breaking over the prop wont lose the bite. Its a feel thing. If you just mash it and keep it mashed it will always blow out for a second.

If you stand on the throttle then you should ventilate it just slightly as then nose breaks over with the throttle held down. You should not back off when that slight rev up happens unless it is an extended period beyond a second or so. BCB

In the old days before hyd. jackplates, the blow out on break over meant your set up was close ! Feather the throttle and go, the truth is overall performance with a tournament load.

Update: Went out and worked on this issue with some different jackplate heights and had no real inprovement, blowout is about 4 to 5 seconds before the prop finds bite no matter where i have jackplate set. Ordered plugs for Fury 26p prop to test…

Im really starting to wonder if there are cup issues from the factory with Fury props. Mine was poorly cupped, and Im starting to wonder is QC is an issue???? Poor cup=poor bite. No way that fury should be blowing out with a hyd. plate dropped all the way down. Adding plugs is not the answer, get that prop checked by an expert to see if it is missing cupping.
