First time out this year in my Puma after adding dual Power Poles and a heavy Sears 31M battery this winter. The hole shot was a little slower than last year, but no biggie. That was until I had the live wells full. Both fuel tanks full, and normal tackle/rod load, and two 250 lb. fatboys along with new poles and battery and full live well was too much for the 250 ProXS and 26p Fury. Once shes on plane she still hauls the mail. Not complaining, its just different looking at the sky for so long before it gets on top. Just need to get used to it when I have all that water in the live well.
As the air temps get hotter your holeshot will get worse. Unless youre making a 200 mile trip then why all the fuel?
I just purchased a 2012 cougar FTD with 2 power poles, 31 series battey. The hole shot is ok until I fill the livewells. Then it is the same as what the original poster described. Im not carrying much fuel. Maybe 1/4 full in both tanks. Im running a 26p fury with all 3 washers removed. If I add the washers, will it help?
Same here when live wells are full hole shot is long. I tried raising/lowering motor and even a 25 fury but the best thing that has helped is doing the turn on take off. I punch it and right after it starts moving I turn to right then straighten it back forward. You need to turn it slowly though or prop will blow out a little.

Right now there isnt enough air (exhaust) going through the holes and over the prop blades and the extra resistance of water vs. mixed water and air is what is bogging things down. If you plug the holes, you allow less air to get to the blades, thus creating more resistance. This is an often discussed topic here and I would suggest a search for other opinions. That being said I run the plate all the way up, motor trimmed all the way down. Go to full throttle until the front end falls over, which is real quick, then I let off the throttle and jackplate all the way down to keep from blowing out. Once the plate is where the prop wont blow out, away I go. Takes a few times to get the timing down but works great. My hole shot is awesome even with everything full and on the hottest days. Obviously I am talking about having a hydraulic plate. There may be a technique for those with a static plate, but I have never been without hydraulic. All this assumes a well running motor.Last edited by VTBassCat on April 15th, 2013, 11:53 pm, edited 1 time in total.Bill Spence St. Albans, VT billspence@yahoo.com http://www.twinstatebassin.com Bass Cat Boats http://www.basscat.com Vexilar Marine Electronics http://www.vexilar.com
This hull obviously had a hole shot before the poles were added. They are upper counterbalance weight that slows hole shot and you need more ventilation or a smaller propeller now.
I added 2 PP this winter on a Puma with 225Pxs, 1 thing I made sure is that I used the brackets that brings the poles as close to the hull as I could then removed all heavy thing from the rear compartment and place them in the front, never had any fuel in the rear tanks and even with full wells hole shot still pretty good.I think the brackets are important, first ones I got with the poles would have dragged water, they had the poles way back.
I might try a smaller pitch prop if it bothers me too much. Now I know what to expect fully loaded. I had both tanks full over the winter and it was a good opportunity to see what she did with all that weight.
I am the same-You outta see soaking wet carpet 300lb coangler and full wells and tanks!Hey PA and BCB- is it better to goto a fourblade or a smaller Fury?C.O.D. Jr. III
The tighter brackets are much less problems and choice on the Trophy or Fury is up to each individual hulls characteristics.
.Madgaffer It is a 26 Fury. Hole shot was good before adding extras and filling live wells. Adding the extra holes frees up the prop on take off to get better hole shot. It does not change any on the top end just helps hole shot.
Do you have a pic of where Croxton added the holes on this one? BCB suggests in line with propeller blade though we are always curious to see different applications.
Cant speak for the Puma but my Classic has been far superior in every way with the 25″ Mark Croxton Razor3 with extra tip cup than the 4 props I had tried before…including Fury, Tempest, Tropy.
BCB: I will try to get a picture to you this weekend when I get home. It sounds like Mark is on the same page as you guys. The 3/8 hole is above the pvs hole and the center of the 3/8 hole is the same distance away from the blade as the center of the pvs hole. Hope this helps.
Robbyw, Just wondering if you got a pic of the holes in your prop you had added.
