I have a deck boat with a Yamaha 115 4 stroke with 83 hours that has sat for a while. Motor started ok, idles good. When I try to acclerate, it falls on its face; RPM holds steady at 3000 and no power. With a 15 pitch prop, I should be able to red line.Took it in to local dealer and $800 later, I have the same problem. They replaced the plugs, oil/filter, fuel filter, and all of the fuel lines. I have a Racor water seperator that they say checks ok. Fuel checked ok. HP and LP fuel pumps check ok; fuel rail and injectors appear to be ok. They called the factory and were told the problem is most likely the Idle Speed Control (ISC) valve which is now on order. They say that the factory also warned that replacing this valve could result in ECU failure.I am looking for ideas from the members as to what else may be broke. I dont understand how replacing the ISC can fix this problem or break the ECU.I know I should have driven the 80 miles and let Tommys wrenches look at it, but 5 miles to the local dealer seemed right at the time.I appreciate your suggestionsthanksjwt
Who knows? But I know the first guys that looked at it didnt- I believe you are in Tejas? Id take it to whomever or wherever has the most 4 stroke experience in Yamahas and minimize the guessing. C.O.D. Jr. III
Things like this are usually simple if they eliminate the electronic gremlins. Sounds like fuel delivery to us.
Thank youI was hoping to find someone that had similar problemsjwt
I had the exact same issues this year when I came home from Afghanistan. What needed to happen was the gunk that the ethanol caused to accumulate over time needed to be removed. Dont be fooled by the shop, not everything needs to be replaced, just cleaned out. I paid almost $2k to get everything back in order just to have to clean out the sticking needle valve at the end of it all. What I wish I would have done is take out the fuel filter, pour about half a bottle of sea foam into it, and run it on idle. I am sure had I done this a couple times I would not have had the issues. With mine, the issues eventually cleaned themselves out after running around a marina on Lake Powell for a day. I was using Lucas Oil and sea foam combined to get the system cleaned out. Nothing which was replaced made a difference at all.- Chaz
Let me start out by thanking you for putting your ass on the line to protect me and my freedom. What you say makes perfect sense. I have a large Racor water separator between the squeeze bulb and the motor; do you think filling the bowl with Lucas oil and the Sea Foam will help?I have no experience with either. Do I need to keep them to some ratio so as not to make matters worse?thanksjw
I cant speak for the sea foam, but I know the Lucas oil is not something you have to worry about overtreatment with. I run it in all my engines and they run so much better when I go thick with the stuff. As for sea foam, I will defer to someone more knowledgeable.- Chaz

Otherwise, as Ward advised, find a top notch Yamaha shop and let them know whats going on. Do you have any warranty left on it? Yamaha ring free or sea foam. They both decarbonize and actually get the gunk out. Ring free is my favorite and is a miracle worker
