Hooking Up “Charge on the Run”

I need to find an electrical connection/location to tap into that goes hot (12V) when the key is turned to the “run” position. This is for a charge on the run device that will route current coming from the motors alternator FROM the cranking battery TO the trolling motor batteries whenever it senses that the cranking battery is fully charged. This will allow for some recharging of the TM batteries during the days fishing. It would be ideal if I could find this connection point in the bilge area where the charge on the run device is located. That would allow for a minimal amount of wire routing. Unfortunately I dont have any wiring diagrams for the boat. I also didnt notice any terminal blocks of which I could easily check to find the right connection. I bought the cat used recently and it is an 06 Pantera Classic w/200 Optimax. I dont see that any of the wires in that area are labeled. Does anyone have any ideas of how to find the right wire or location to hook up to?Thanks, Greg

Its actually an older Dual Pro 3-bank (15/15/6 A) that has the charge on the run feature built in. It was built before Dual Pro ran into some legal issues that currently prevents them from packaging the COR in the charger.While it was bought a while back, it was still new in the box. I bought it from a guy in my club that bought it but never got around to installing it.Ive already installed the unit and have the charging circuits hooked up and its working great to charge the batteries… I just need to find that source of 12V to get the COR function working.

The quickest place to find a wire that is hot with the key on is either the voltmeter or gas gauge behind the dash. You will be looking for a purple wire. Hope this helps.JohnJones Trolling Motor Services870 773 3474Motorguide/MinnKota/PowerPole/Lowrance/Humminbird

It would be a lot simpler if I could find the place to tap in in the bilge area.

There is no ignition hot feed in the bilge area. You can run from a purple wire under the dash from the ignition switch.

BCB – Thanks for the input. I was hoping it would be simpler, but I guess Ill figure out a way to route the wire up to the console.Greg

I had this same charger in a champion and I was able to hook the purple wire coming out of the charger to the gas tank and charge trolling motor batteries with the main motor running. Confirmed with the charge indicator lights on the charger coming on. I think the instructions for the unit were pretty good, and you can download them from the website. The boat I had just used a standard fuel gauge, not smartcraft. Hope that helps might be worth a try before you pull all that wire through.Jon

I dont think that will work. The one (32 gallon) fuel tank on my Cat is under the seats. I have not access to it from the bilge.
