how do you keep your lids when storing boat?

what is the best way to keep the lids on the rod lockers, storage compartments, live wells and battery compartments on a basscat? the lid on my bow storage compartment is slightly warped, and im wondering if storing it in the open position was the cause. it almost looks like the pressure from the hydraulic arm may be the actual culprit. its not major..just enough to cause a slight rise in the side with the arm, and the opposite side now rubs the rod locker box lid when opening/closing. im going to try to straighten some by closing lid, placing heavy tacklebox on high side, and wedging a spacer in between rod box and bow compartment lid. any input is appreciated.

I store boat with all lids closed except for the rear lid when Im charging the batteries. Ive never had any issues. I doubt that the hydraulic arm would put enough pressure on the lid to bend it. Its more likely that it got bent by being stepped on while something was under one side of the lid. It should not be hard to fix. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax

cajun, You can tweak it back into shape easily as they are aluminum.

should i try to force it by hand, or do as i described (adding weight to one side while closed, with a spacer wedged in between lid and rod locker) and let time take care of it. the bow in the lid isnt major, just a little crooked now. also…should i store with lids open or closed (if closed, should i unlock latch). its garage kept, so weather is not a factor during storage. Reply: You can tweak it with any preferered method. We use a short 2×4 here to apply pressure when we need to twist one. Sometimes it is simple, and sometimes you have to be careful to not over twist it.Last edited by cajun catter on February 9th, 2009, 4:33 pm, edited 3 times in total.

I also keep all lids closed except one of the rear bilge compt lids for venting whenever the batteries get a charge. If my compts get any mosisure in them after a day on the lake in the rain, then I pop them open to air dry as to avoid mildew accumulation.

I like to leave the lids and seats up on the boat until completely dry, and then sometimes i leave them elevated, just to “decompress” the bubble trim. just dont leave any food in the boat ! D.

When i store my cat i leave all compartments open so that air flow is always there with the ceiling fan on high so their is no chance of mildew,but thats just me.

The key words above is Ceiling Fan.. all garages that are built with a boat in mind should come with a Ceiling fan as standard option… lol lol lol Open lids sure help the rods and tackle from moisture even when you think all is good mister mildew will catch you sooner or later. lol of course this is when you are not on the road..

The ceiling fan is a very nice garage feature as it will dry your boat out. An attic fan is nice, though does not press air through your rig.

Why in the heck are you guys storing your boats?????? What am I missing??????? I back mine in the garage and turn on the fans in the back part of the garage, leave all lids open for the night and get everything dried out. The next day Ill closed the lids and turn off the fans. Never had a prob with a lid warping and since they are aluminimiumimin Im sure they wont.
