How many of you fish without the pedastal seat on the front deck?

I have had my 12 Puma for about 2 months now and only fished a few times, so Im still learning things about the boat. Ive noticed that I feel little cramped up front while running the tm. Its not the boat at all, its my defensive tackle body type that is the issue, lol. I think Id feel more comfortable fishing with the butt seat removed, but I think it comes in handy when fishing in the wind. Just thought Id get some thoughts about the issue from experienced cat owners. Thanks in advance.

The only time I use mine is when it gets rough and I cant stay in place without it.

I gave up my front seat 2 brands and 2 bass cats ago. My back is 100% better at the end of a day of fishing compared to what it was.

I wish I could fish without that butt seat, it sure would give me more room up front. But I have never been able to do that. I just dont have the balance. Im older than dirt now (67) But even 20 years ago, I could not maintain my balance and use the trolling motor pedal. So, I use the butt seat all of the time.

All a matter of what you like . — Personally , Im right there with Billius . — A bit more teeter with my toddering , so I keep the butt seat . — Im 68″ tall as well , so I feel the ” Not much room ” thing maybe more than others would , so I put some black non-skid on top of the rail on both sides of the boat to catch myself if need be . — Works great . — MarkLast edited by BIGCATTER on November 13th, 2013, 6:19 pm, edited 1 time in total.

I also never use a butt seat. I miss more fish while sitting down and it bothers my back. My partners are usually on front deck with me also so the seat is in the way

Boat will be 4 years old in January. Butt seat has never been installed. Maybe if I fished the Great Lakes or more open water Id use it on occasion, but I find that it just gets in the way. Also, one of the advantages of the Cats TM pedal placement is that youre “on point” and leaning back on a seat seems to neutralize some of that advantage.

I use mine more to lean against it a bit then sit on it. Ive found that if I only keep rods on one side (port for me) and use starboard for getting around seat it works pretty well so it feels less crowded up front.
