Ive discovered an issue. It has been hot and cold, Hot and cold here in Louisiana with alot of rain. My bait compartments have a ton of moisture in them and now I have several jigs, baits, and hooks ruined. My boat stays covered under a car port. How to you keep moisture out of the compartments?
This topic will be interesting to here! Though I dont get moisture in my compartments my boat sweats a good bit. I keep it in a well insulated garage. I pretty sure its the humidity! I was gna purchase a dehumidifier. I dont cover the boat but the sweat literally causes puddles of water under the boat..I feel its because the building it pretty much air tight even the seals around the doors. I even tried running fan to prevent. Not tryin to steal your thread. But I to am interested in any suggestions in the moisture beast. Mine only does this on the more humid times. My bother in law has a 60×60 garage and his does the exact same thing. Though his is not a bcb boat. So Im convinced is humidityLast edited by Redngoo on December 27th, 2015, 1:31 am, edited 1 time in total.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
Fans domkeepmair moving, though lids must be open. A squirel cage fan ducted or piped into the rear cowl vents would help, and you might have to vent the center storages for some air flow there.
I bet your slab sweats too doesnt it? Heres what happens. As the outside air warms and becomes moist or humidity increases, that air makes it into your now cooler storage, in relation to the outside air. As that happens, the warm humid air that comes in contact with your cooler slab, boat, storage building cools below the dew point and moisture develops on those surfaces. Some people call it sweat. Crack a door and turn on the shop fans. Try to warm the shop up to match the outside air temperature. Also move a large volume of air, if you can. About all you can do in a building not environmentally controlled.
Jp . With the other cat I had it was stored outside with a good breathable cover. I always made sure the back side was left open a little for air flow. I never even had mildew or sweating troubles. These nicer covers.are they breathable.. have you tried leaving the back open a litle for air flow. Apdriver. No ironically the slab dont sweat. Yes cracking the doors just a litle and running my big fan does help. But still sweats. I always open all my compartments. This is why I been looking into a desicant dehumidfier.which will work in colder weather also. I also understand wat causes the humidity. Was hoping to hear that Im not the only member that has this trouble. Im sure everyones buildings is enviromently controlleddLast edited by Redngoo on December 27th, 2015, 2:52 am, edited 1 time in total.2013 PANTERA 2MERCURY 200 PRO XSMINNKOTA 80LB FORTREX25 fury
I purchased a product years ago (dont remember the name) that worked wonders for me with the exact situation. Little and larger cardboard type pieces that were perforated for easy sizing. HEAVY moisture was an issue but the stuff that accumulate and ruin hooks and other rustables and mush up plastics, the product worked great…INHO…
I am surprised I have not had this problem yet. Lots of rain here and temps all over the thermometer. My garage is insulated and also has a 6mil vapor barrier under the slab. If I ever develop the problem I would turn some heat on. I have an air conditioner installed and a portable heater is always on standby. Doors are also insulated and have vinyl weather stripping installed.DanLast edited by MeanV2 on December 27th, 2015, 2:58 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Have you tried the Star brite hanging bags? I use them under a pontoon cover and they have eliminated a mold problem.http://www.basspro.com/Star-Brite-No-Da … LL_PRODUCT
the tile in my bathroom around my toilet is sweating like crazy tooooothis problem is not just with our boats is all im tryin to sayseriously though. my boat stays outside w/ the Aurora cover and a silver tarp on top of that. it “TRAPS” moisture for sure. I uncover the boat at least once a week when I know the sun will be out and open all the boxes. if I know that I will not be fishing for a while (a month or better) I will pull out all of my hooks/hooked baits and stick them in the garage or attic. there really is no “magic” cure as our issue has been around since the Lord made this place. except for BCBs and toilets.. that is a relatively new issue. happy new year fellas
My storage is well insulated and on a slab. Environmentally uncontrolled except for a a forced air electric heater. I always have moisture problems in these climatic conditions. Fans and exhaust to remove the moisture then heat to bring that inside temp up.
