How to remove Hummingbird 1198

Is there a way to remove the 1198 from the dash easily? I dont want to ruin the dash. With that huge TV with the white cover out there exposed its a huge target for the wrong type of people. I sure dont know of any way to remove an in dash unit “easily.” Thats the price we pay for having them installed that way. Although not as big as your 1198, I wish my 997 wasnt in dash. It would be a lot easier to remove if it was on a RAM mount.

If it is a standard HB installation, there is a single piece of metal across the back of the unit on two studs screwed into the back of the unit. The bar is attached with a couple of small wing nuts. Take them off, pull the unit out, disconnect the connector and your done. Be careful not to knock off the A1 panel connector.jwt

There is a young man named Sherman Truss that builds custom mounts, as you can see, they use a quick disconnect mount. I imagine he is pretty busy as a BC dealer but perhaps you can twist his arm and get him to build you one (basscat296) jwt

Thats the beauty of the in dash install, less theft potential and the market for used large screens in the pawn shop world is pretty limited. We have not seen it as a potential target on the installed units. Plus that one is glued in the dsh with urethane. BCB

I live in the San Francisco East Bay next to Fremont. Here if it isnt welded down it could be a target. Hell they saw off parking meter tops to get the coins later. Im sure it will never get messed with. It would make me feel a little if there was a way to lock the cover on it.What would be nice is if Hummingbird made like a tray that you would mount in the dash with all the connections as plugins like my 798 SI mount. You just slip your unit (no not that unit dirty boys) into the tray and it plugs in.
