Topic: How to remove LCX 15MT from dash?

Hi guys, Im replacing my x15 with an x28 on the console. Cabin fever is really setting in, so Im out in the garage with the heater on today trying to get the x15 out. It looks like it has some black adhesive around the unit to help hold it in place. I have all 4 nuts off the small bolts in the back, but the unit still wont budget. I dont want to put too much pressure on it. I assume I need to cut the adhesive with a razor blade maybe? Might be tough to get a blade in there. Ideas, experience?

When removing an x17, the unit was taken out with a small putty knife placed between unit and dash. Be careful and take your time and will be no visible marks on console. Reseal new one with a little silicone and you should be good to go. Someone else may come along and have a better idea, but this will work. Good Luck………………… pant 2 Bob

But on Champion and Stratos yes you can take a razor blade and cut that sealant if you have everything unhooked from the back and it should slide right out. If I were going to use a putty knife around it I would lay a few layers of painters tape or such over the gel coat to help prevent scratching.

Combination of putty knife and razor knife worked perfect. I carefully slid the razor blade in and went around everywhere that I could. Then I was able to get the small putty knife behind the unit and gently pry it forward, allowing me to better cut the silicone. Slowly and carefully, I was able to get it out! Thanks very much for the info. Ive got a x28 for the dash and an x27 for the front. Looking forward to seeing in color!
