Come on Bob, Judd or anybody else that went. Last I heard youll were heading down to Falcon Lake fishing for a few days. Give us some kind of fishing report. Know at least 1 of you caught a 10 pounder !!! Joey
Basscat247, Three weeks ago I drove down with my BassCat Sabre from Birmngham, AL. What a trip. The fishing couldnt be more challenging because the water had elevated (risen) over 30 since summer pool. Major hurricanes in Mexico had run off in the Rio Grand river with Falcon being the last pool to take the water. Water levels were within 6″ of going over the damn. With that said plus being a recreation fisherman we had 20 lb sacks. Went with arguably the best guide the next day, Charlie Haralson (google his guide service) and had 27.5 lbs in the boat before 8:30 am! I am shameful to say and hate to admit it but the fishing is so awesome there when ever we would get fish to the boat we would say “Oh, its just a 4lber”. That is what that lake is like. Anyone who goes down needs to visit Lake Falcon Tackle store. They give good information if you dont use a guide. On our first half day We caught 22lbs in 4 hours. The most impressive experience of the trip was on that first half day watching my brother loose one fish (burned in my memory for the rest of my life) that was between 8-10 lbs. on Rapala DT10. That fish jumped literally 4-5 out of the water but most impressive was seeing his lure thown 20 plus feet before the fish entered back in the water. We did not catch monster fish but did land several over 6lbs. The big ones are there. Just google Lake Falcon Tackle for their fishing report. Hope that gives you the dynamics of that fishery! You need to go once. I will be going back and I usually do not make return trips to fishing destinations. Good luck! misr12
Took the P4 and camped out at Fayette County. Fished Dec 5 and 6. Double limited both days. Best 5 on the 5th was 23 lbs. Best toad was a 7.5. Best 5 on the 6th was 16 lbs. Maybe 5 or 6 boats on the lake the 5th, cloudy cool day. Wind was just right. Next day started cool in the AM, then turned to bluebird skies and the layers of clothes started coming off as the day went on. By 2 pm, I could have been fishing with shorts, t shirt, and flip flops and my Jimmy H sunglasses. Maybe 50+ boats on the 2600 acre lake the 6th? Nothing better than fishing on a weekday. Bob – I got your message. Will give you a call tonight.
I heard the fishing was o.k.,,,,BUT Tideman is absolutely worn out from his trip to Dallas. Judd dont need to stay gone as long next time !
It was tough but we still caught some fish and had one AWESOME day. Wednesday our best 5 wouldve went 27.20lbs on the Berkley scale and probably caught 25 fish but everyday wasnt like that let me tell you. Sat I never caught a fish but my partner caught 2. If going to Falcon your first time and not knowing what to expect misr did the right thing by hooking up with Charlie. That dude seems to always be on them pretty darn good. I caught all of my fish on a 1/2 oz StrikeKing premier spinnerbait when the wind wasnt blowing hard and when the wind was blowing either a 3/4oz or 1oz new StrikeKing Bottom Dweller spinnerbait. We modified blades on both baits to real small blades to mimic the bait that was in the tops of the trees. Funny because there was one certain type of tree you could find fish in otherwise it was slim pickings and they all look so good. My buddy did catch a 7.3 on a Senko and I caught both a 6.8 and 5.8 on the 1/2 oz blade. One thing that I was shocked misr didnt mention was how hard those fish down there fight…I honestly dont think there is a meaner bass in the country (I havent been out west though). Now I am back to the grind trying to figure out when and how I can get back down there…might try for a Feb trip. So Robin clear your calendar. Oh and next time dont leave her sick, just take her back to MS with ya. Talk about grumpy She is feeling better and the mood is improving…well until I drop the bomb about going back in Feb I know Bob was having a tough time and when we left Thurs I think he and John were going to stay a few more days. The fishing was so/so at best but anytime you put a bunch of guys together it is always fun…sort of like a mini GAF without all the good boats Judd
I learned the hard way that any time a bunch of guys go off on a long trip to an unfamiliar lake, they should pool the $ and draw straws to go with a GOOD guide the first day, might even pay trail boat fee. Then they can pool info for all involved to set the patterns for that lake and time, also learn some of the deep structure that the big boys like to establish home on. Just some info from the OFG (OLD FARTS GANG)!!!!! SAMBAYOU BANDIT
