Has anyone on the boards purchase a hull only cat and rigged it themselves?

Yes. In 2002 I purchased a certificate for a Sabre that a guy won as a backseater in a BASS tournament. Due to a warranty claim from another boat, I ended up with a motor, trolling motor, electronics, etc. I had everything but a boat and trailer to haul it on. The certificate was good for a Sabre and a trailer. It worked out for me, but I had some unusual circumstances. By the way, I have had very few problems with my rig, but BCB has treated me just like they treat any other customer when I have needed them.

In Sept. 2001, I bought a pristine 99 model Cougar that was used as a demo and then sat for a year. I got the rig, minus the engine and graphs for a total of $10k. UNBELIEVABLE!!!! I drove from Louisiana to Kansas to pick up this beautiful rig. I picked up a brand new 2001 Johnson 225HO for $6k from a dealer running out the OMC closeouts upon OMCs bankruptcy. Spent $2k for everything else (rigging, 2 props, Johnson gauges and controls, battery charger, GPS, and fishfinder.) I had this one for 5 years until I totaled the lower unit. Got a great insurance settlement and then trade-in to buy me a new 225HO Evinrude ETEC in late 2007. I love this boat and enjoy the ride. Fast as any boat out there…since its the light streamlined cougar.
