Found this post stating in January, Humminbird will be releasing software update to relocate the data boxes allowing for full width screen use. I was wondering why my 898 did not have the same software update as my previous 1197 and 788 software versions. Now that will be a welcomed update. That would be a cool update…if it works. The last time I did an update on my 997, it lost all of its gps functionality. Luckily I was able to get the old version of software from a website, other than Humminbird/ and restored my 997 so the gps worked again. Since then, I have been reluctant to install any of their updates.

Bill, Keep your older version software updates for safe keeping in case you do a future upgrade. Thats unfortunate and am glad I never had that experience with my upgrades. This new upgrade is much needed and appreciated. Never cared for those large block type numbers eating up the real estate on the screen. Cant wait to get it. Just a FYI when doing Humminbird software upgrades: Make sure you have only one unit on at a time. When you are finished turn that unit off and do the upgrade to your other unit if needed.1. Export up all your waypoints, routes and tracks2. Delete all your waypoints, routes and tracks.3. Select “Restore defaults” (I think thats what its called, correct me if Im wrong).4. Turn off unit.5. Insert SD card with software upgrade .bin6. Restart your Humminbird7. Follow the prompts and your good to go.

i am starting to see why i chose Humminbird over Lowrance. Quality, support and updates that make the unit better!!! thanks Fly for listing the procedure!!
