How is the performance of the 998c? How does the down imaging feature work? About to uprgade to either a 998c or lowrance HDS7 with SI. Opinions pleasethanksJW Thomas

works great, bit quciker that the 997. I like the down image, and the support.

ya im thinking about a 998 too, but i would like to mount mine in the console and i have a lcx19 in there. the humminbird is wider so im going to need that bezel offerd by basscat, anyone have a pic of a 998 in the console with that bezel thanks Ryan

Here are a few quick shots, Let me know if you need any others. It is a tight fit and I also used the 900 Serise Humminbird dash kit.

Do those of you that use these have a transducer glassed in the hull AND one mounted on the transom? Will I need to buy a seperate transducer if I want sonar to work at high speeds?Thanks for the help!

Kent, if you want any of the side imaging units to work at running speeds you need a separate transducer, preferrably a through hull. Mike

Where is the best place to mount the external SI transducer? Will the unit work with two transducers? One outside and one glassed in?thanksjwt

yes you can have 2 ducers but there is a special cable you need to buy humminbird part # AS SIDB Y Its a Side Imaging Splitter Cable Y Cable – Side Imaging and Dual Beam – allows you to use two transducers on one unit without the use of a transducer switch. For use with Side Imaging products only, in conjunction with a dual beam transducer only. For improved high speed performance for bottom tracking.
