Humminbird depth issue with picture

Here is a picture of the depth issue I am having with my Bird. The depth, as evidenced by the bottom, is around 19-20 but the depth number reads 4.6. This is a fairly common problem for me. I have the settings set up like someone said that HB recommended with the surface setting and saltwater. I would love to he able to just unplug the Y connector and plug the glassed in transducer directly into the unit but its not quite that easy. Thanks,Britt

Mine was doing the same. Is your transducer in the hull for this unit? If so, the transducer needs to be replaced. My 2011 P II had both the front and rear transducers mounted in the hull. Both units did this. My friend, former product engineer with Humminbird, said the WRONG epoxy was used when my boat was rigged. Thus, causing air bubbles and moisture to develop where the transducers are mounted. I got Bobby ( CS at BassCat ) to send two new ducers…….. Not a problem since. Bobby is the best in the business. I cant remember the name of the epoxy he used. He had HB send him some.

Same issues with the through hull transducer.Im going to retire that transducer and mount one up front on the trolling motor.I dont like the fact that what I see on the front humminbird is almost 20 behind me… In deep water I run to the back of the boat to target the big fish I just seen on the front fishfinder freeks the heck out of my co-anglers :-DIll be glad when HB has a new update to fix issues the last update created. I only need to see the temp or time once on the screen not two or three places….And every time Im on a stained or debris filled lake I have to set the unit for deep salt water… X-(Practice Angling CPRCatchPictureRelease2010 PIV 200SHO

Mine is glassed in at the stern. I am using the Y connector cable. I was afraid it was going to be the transducer.Britt

Dwayne, I have my 858 DI up front with the ducer on the trolling motor. I have a puck up front for that unit. I have a 998c at the console with another puck independently. Both units are linked, so I can share waypoints. Its nice to mark what is underneath you at the time.

Get your hands on a transducer and try just holding it over the side to test the image results. Should give you a good idea on what you have going on. BCB

What epoxy is BCB using to cement the in hull transducers? This seems to be a problem for a few people out there including myself. My boat was built in March of 2012. Thanks

I would bet on transducer as well. Ive had the similar issues in the past.
