Humminbird Help

Put some sort of light or load on that wire harness and figure out if the voltage drops when you have a load on that wire. Then take the unit and contact HumminBird if you have voltage. Call the 800 number and see what they say. BCB

Thanks for the suggestion bcb. I hooked a tail light bulb to the power cable, and the volts dropped to 8.4 which is what the sonor unit shows. The power cable has a choke on it, which humminbird sent to me free of charge when I was trying to get interferance out of the sonor. They are going to send me a new cable with out the choke. Their service is super. Do you know of any thing else that could be causing this. Any suggestions on any thing I could do or check would be appreciated. Thanks. Ken

Connections in the terminals could be corroded or have a wire broken that would limit current flow. Try tracing it backwards with the light on the wires to see where it drops if you want to learn if it is behind the choke, or not.

Its been awhile since I posted on here but visit board regulary. Heres my problem, I have a Matrix97 on the bow of my puma that wont stay on. The power cable shows over 12 volts at the at the plug, but when I turn the unit on, and put on system check the unit only shows 8.3 – 8.4 volts. I sent it to humminbird and got it back today, the note in the box said no problem found. Its doing the same thing as before I sent it. Dont take this as a slam on Hummimbird because they have been super to deal with, I have no complaints. What I need is a Matrix97 or any Humminbird that uses the same plug, that I can plug my power cord into and check the unit voltage. If anyone in the Orange Texas area can help me with this, please post and let me know. Sorry for the long post. Thanks Ken

There should be all the information you need in your Humminbird directions. The unit has only power, GPS And transducer leads.

Im assuming the transducers run to the a/b switch? If the unit in the dash is reading correctly then it would have to be problem from the switch to the bow or the unit itself?I tried to find the info on Humminbirds website with no luck.Thanks

If your Hbirds are set up like most were, the switch is for the 797 only, to switch between the side imaging and 2d transducer when on plane. The 787 is probably running on a transducer glassed into the bow, I would go into the menu on the 787 and play with the sensitivity setting. Go into the main menu and set your “user mode” to “advanced”, this will let you change the sensitivity and see if that helps any. Mike

mike has tagged it. The unit switches between transducers on the 797 only. The front one should be in the hull, or you can go external to the troller if that one has failed.
