Humminbird / motorguide interferance

Just like to know if anybody is running a Humminbird on the bow with a Minkota and if there is interferance on the screens. I have had several different Humminbirds on the bow and the Tour Pro (24 or 36, doesnt matter) at certain speeds whites out the screen. I have added all the filters Humminbird has recommended with little effect. They say its the “digital” feature on the otors. At this point, if Minkotas do not throw the interferance, I would switch.ThanksMilton

I had a similar issue with my minkota T/M. besides the filters from Hummingbird I ran power to the control head directly from the battery, fuseable link in line. Not real sure which corrected problem as power and filters were all done at the same time, all noise vanished.

Chokes or filters help as is mentioned.

None of the chokes helped my interference issue. The only thing that has helped a little so far is a ground wire from the neg battery post to the TM shaft, now the interference is intermittent.From everything I have been told, the interference just happens on some units. Some units have issues and some dont regardless of TM type or battery set up. 100 boats with the same set up can be just fine, but the next boat in line will have it.

I run MK an i get some screen clutter when using the dwn an side image . Actually mine started when i changed the trans mount. 998unit.

Try to run a ground wire off the depthfinder and, if you have a trolling motor mount transducer, put a piece of rubber between it and the trolling motor. Andy GreeneAndy Greene Greene Boat & Motor 828-286-2290 http://www.greeneboats.com

Thanks for the input. I had a 04 COugar that I did all the grounding tricks and none of that worked. I have a Puma now and have all (1198 at helm, 898 (side/downand) and 788(wide side) on the nose. I will try the case ground adn the rubber mount. The interferance got worse when I mounted the 788 transducer, might be vibration. Also on the old boat, I had the speed control marked at points it did not interfer, about 1/3 and 2/3 speed was the least. Pretty frustrating to have to do the coast and glide deal.Milton

I do not have the fancy units most of you guys do, but I did have some interference when I put an old Hbird Matrix 37 with Quadbeam on the MK tm. Got the filter from Hbird and still had issue. After talking with one of the Hbird mods on the BBC board, went to Radio Shack and got the biggest ferrite choke they had, added that and also used the rubber washers to isolate the transducer from the tm housing. Working well now with zero interference, but that is with “cheap” electronics. Still might be something to try. I did have to use washers on the MG tm when I had Lowrance on my 97 Pantera II as well…………..96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

I think you might be onto something with the rubber washers. Thats my next move.Might be fancy stuff, so far all it has done for me is see the fish I cant get to bite!ThanksMilton
