Have questions on Hydraulic Jackplates:-What is the best brand?-Want to purchase to be able to assist with getting max speed from my 09 cougar with 250 pro xs. Seems no matter where I set the jack plate It chines like crazy, fastest I can get is 72 but feel there is much more. (this has been the most frustrating since I bought this boat). Will the ability to adjust the jackplate on the fly potentionally improve this issue noticably?- What is best 6,8,10 inch jackplate and what differences do they make.Thanks!

There is more to this than a Jack plate will resolve. Try looking for some dealership help and last shot is to contact BCB. It sounds like you may be a new owner and if so then perhaps you need some more help.

I had the same issues with my 06 Sabre as you are experiencing. I dealt with Phil Addison; I dont remember his phone number but will search for it if you want to have that info. I purchased the Detwiler self-contained unit. There is no hydraulic reservoir to mount or lines to be run with the self-contained unit. It has performed to expectations with no problems. Ive not had a lot of time to use the boat, but thus far am happy. On my first outing, I picked up an additional 4 mph according to the GPS; this on a very heavy boat. I could be misinformed, but I believe BassCat is somewhat hesitant on the hydraulic jack plates. Personally, I would always have a hydraulic jack plate on any future boats. Hopefully, Phil will see this and add his phone number. He answered all my questions and spent a lot of time with me; and his pricing was reasonable.Best of luck,PS: Not sure I spelled Phils last name correctly.

Sorry about my first reply did not read it that close.Improvements1 Steering/ handling2 Speed3 You can raise the motor in shallow water and not loose the water pickup as fast as you will by tilting the motor My Sabre Never had chines. but I had a lot of steering and speed issue tried 3 different props along with Adjusting thye jack plate and got a little improvement, But the hyd Jack plate has done the most for my boat. But In my case their could be a loose connection between the driver and steering wheel. Best of luck

Best plate is the 8″ detwieler. Will help max speed a little BUT no gonna fix your issues. Denny Rhead is up there by you he would be a good one to hook up with. Send me your number and I will get it to Denny. Main issue is seat time sounds like
