I recently completed my transfer from Amarillo, Texas to Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I am really looking forward to the new fishing challenges of lakes around Oklahoma. If any of you guys wish to provide tips to a new Oklahoman about what is productive this time of year on lakes in proximity to Oklahoma City, I will certainly be grateful. Thanks in advance for any assistance you may provide.Corky
Corky, The lakes around OKC get heavy traffic this time of year from recreation. Though there are some really nice fishing lakes around eastern Oklahoma. We would have to trip to Broken Bow for some smallmouth action right now.
lot of good lakes within a couple of hours of you. Some include Konawa, Arbuckle, Okemah, dripping springs, and Eufaula . A little further includes texoma, sardis and McGee creek. Mainly familiar with lakes east and south of you. If you have any questions about any of these Ill try and provide some input just e-mail me at bigal74848@yahoo.com. Lots of fishing opportunities in this state either with tournaments or big fish.Bigal
Corky,Welcome to OKC, I live in NW OKC myself. Wes Watkins is another lake just east of town that is not real old but unfortunatly went through a bass kill a few years back. I understand it is rebounding. Konowa, north of Ada, Ok is a nice bass lake. Sooner Lake, north of OKC, is supposed to be a very good hybrid lake if you are interested in that. Arbuckle has turned into a very well known “big bass” lake but unfortunatly this time of year it is covered up by recreation boaters and seadoos, at least on the weekends. It might not be too bad during the week???One on the flip side you are only 4.5 hours away from Fork. What line of business are you in?Terry
I am moving from a hotel in Oklahoma City to Deer Creek on 30 JUN 14. I work for the Veterans Administration hospital in Oklahoma City. In what line off business are you? Do you live in proximity to Deer Creek? I am joining the Oklahoma City Bassmasters next month and hope to start fishing as much as possible. Are you in a fishing club? Perhaps we could wet a fishing line together at some point in the future. Thanks for the fishing tips.Corky
Welcome to OKC! I have lived here many years. Lots to do, redevelopment downtown continues bringing lots of quality of life amenities such as Thunder basketball, bricktown canal entertainment district, Myriad Gardens downtown park, and Regatta Park along the Oklahoma River where folks climb the skybridge, zipline across the river, or enjoy a day of canoeing or kayaking. Other projects on the way including a whitewater rafting facility, expanded 40 acre downtown park, modern streetcar, bike and walking trails. You are here at a good time – lots going on in OKC and the people are great! Most of the lakes I fish have been mentioned and are all worth the trip. Sooner is on fire right now, two weeks ago my club and another held tournaments on the same weekend. The winner in my club caught over 24lbs, the other club winner weighed in over 25!
