I believe I set a Bass Cat record over the weekend…

Anyone else ever catch one of these out of a Bass Cat???It is a Pleco…the same fish you buy in a pet store to keep your aquarium free of algae. Caught this in Calaveras Lake just west of San Antonio, TX. What is even stranger is how I caught it. Not a hook in it anywhere. Somehow I managed to get my line wrapped around its tail and back through a treble hook on my crankbait. It is by far the strangest fish that has been in my Cat. We were hoping for a couple of big bull reds, but they did not cooperate.BTW, I would like to give props to BCB on the design and manufacture of their trailer. I put right at 1500 miles on mine since Thursday last week driving to Choke Canyon Reservior and then Calaveras. Boat pulled like a dream.

We thought it was a aquarium catfish for algae, though we did not know the name till we scrolled down. We are sure one has been caught in a BCB over the 39+ years somehow, though who would ever know. Thanks for the positives! BCB

Anything that ugly has to be a record! Maybe its the largest of its kind in a bass cat.

Actually I have 2 about that big in my fish tank, 1 black 1 albino, the albino 1 is really ugly. Theirs also a multipule pound Albino Oscar in their and a Small Mouth/Blue Gill hybrid of some sort…..The oscar is quite intimidating…..

Just plain ugly! Proof positive that some stupid person has dumped thier aquarium in your lake. You find a !00# Guppie one of these days.

You find a !00# Guppie one of these days.I guess I should explain…Calaveras is a power plant lake that is stocked with bass, catfish, redfish, and striper. Pleco were introduced to help with the algae issues inherent in this type lake. Not unusual to see them, just not usual to catch them.

I saw a lot of those when BR200 and I went to Okeechobee in February. It was cold and real windy one day so we went into the Lakeport canals to fish to avoid the wind. We saw tons of them in the canals…A lot of them were on the private ramps and every place you would think a bass would bed, there would be some. I think they were sunning. We saw over 30 one one ramp.Weird looking. I am sure they have to hurt the bass population. I bed they invade the beds when the bass spawn.One friend of ours near Orlando said the cold weather killed a lot of them.
