I currently have a 27″ Fury on my new Cougar Advantage. I only have a few hours on my motor and have reached 79mph.Should I try other props?

Depends on whether or not you want to spend the money trying other props. Some you can try are 26 Fury, 26 Trophy, 27 Trophy, or you can have one tuned up to your specs. The options are almost endless so get your check book out…………..if you want. Upper 70s are consistent with most setups. How is your holeshot and how many rpms are you turning on the top?

Looks like you might be a little high on the engine. Drop the engine a 1/4-1/2 inch on the jack plate and your rpms will come down a tad and your speed will come up a bit. In addition, do not trim the engine all the way out. The Fury performs better in the water. Yes, the Fury will hold the weight.

Why dont you guys or alot of Mercury guys use the Merc Scoops that you can buy? I would think that for the High Performance boats that are under 85mph the scoops would help with being able to get those Engine heights that get the #s, or does that make things dangerous? The reason I ask is Tom (flyswatter) in the past has really played with heights and on his old 150 could really get that motor up with positive results and really impressive #s once he learned the driving methods. What is your prop to pad measurement or are you using a Hydraulic Jack Plate? Whats your water pressure like now? And I forget what the Pro xs limiter is? are you hitting it? I know alot of guys like the 26, but my pro guy he is all over the limiter on his 250 HO with a 25 Fury, where most guys with that motor because of gear ratio need the 24 Fury, so maybe you and Denny have a Extra efficient hull? I would listen to Phil on this one. He helped me set my last two boats up, and has alot of experience with these. I would also involve my dealer in the process, that is what they do, and are an underused resource ! I think you probably have the prop right, but need to lower the engine some and dont overtrim ,,,,as Phil stated. Good luck, and enjoy the new boat ! D.
