After having it in my garage for two weeks I finally got her out on the water. I took my wife with me so I could not open her to WOT but did hit a little over 65 on the speedo (which I know reads wrong) before she said to back off!!!!! IT WAS GREAT!!!!!! Had a little chim walk but nothing that I could not get through, I think. I never imagined what a rocket the Sabre was out of the hole. I kept on stopping just to jump out of the hole in less than 3 seconds. I had me and the wife in the boat and a full tank with the livewells full and it still jumped out of the water. Impressed is an understatement. I plan on adding a six inch jack plate, will that add much more to the performance?Thank you Bass Cat for a great boat. You guys ROCK!!!I will have it out again to put some fish in it Sunday.ElwoodIt was worth the wait!Elwood…..Bass Cat Proud
LA Elwood, Glad you are happy with your Sabre! As long as you and your wife are both happy then good Karma will be in the household! The jack plate may give you some adjustment, and just like anything we buy, we want to personalize it. So while we would have told you to save your money on the set uip new, we wont on this scenario as you are tweaking it to your satisfaction. The plate will rob some of that blazing hole shot though. While others will say it adds, it does not. So just expect to drop a second or so on the hole shot. Gain will be in the minimums, though you will gain some control as you can adjust it to your loads on height. Glad again you are satisfied and it was worth the wait. The wait after you picked it up had to be the hardest part. BCB
The wait was tough but I am in the military and we were in the middle of an inspection. 14 days is really nothing when compared to the men and woman that are deployed right now. That is a long a dang long wait that I am very familiar with. I guess that I should count my blessings rather than complain. Thank you for an outstanding product. The boat really does turn some heads.ElwoodElwood…..Bass Cat Proud
just got mine a couple of weeks ago, out twice, came out of a heavier boat style with a 115, this blew me away. what size motor does yours have? mine started walking on me at 63 (gps). gotta to learn how to drive a better performing rig. keep informed on your learning curve as it may help some of us others. would greatly appreciate it. was thinking about a jackplate myself if would help stabilize it on the top end. did that stop and jump out the hole, myself.
just noticed your up the road. ever come east to lake claiborne? open water in front of the dam. ill race ya (just a joke, not a serious challenge).
Ill take you up on that race, no pink slips of course. LOL I do not think that a jack plate will make the boat easier to drive, actually the opposite. More boat out of the water equals higher speeds and more chime walk to counter. I think that I will leave mine as is for a little while and then add performance parts to it. Let me know if you are going to be around my area.ElwoodElwood…..Bass Cat Proud
Took it out today and the first fish in the boat was just over 10!!!! …………………………..inches. LOL I did eventualy put a 4 pounder in the livewell and had 9 fish total.I also took a GPS to run with and to say the least I have a large learning curve ahead of me. I had the boat up to 64.9 on the GPS or at least that is the highest I saw it during a couple of runs. Trying to control the chime walk kept me from looking at the GPS during the fastest runs. I was not about to take my eyes off of the channel markers which are telephone poles. You guys that have run Caddo lake LA will know what I mean. I feel like tha boat had a little more if I could control it. I was sitting on 5700 rpms with a little bit of trim left. I heard that two bumps down from full trim was where I wanted to be. The only reason that I am looking at a jack plate now is to get the control cable off of the transom.TightlinesElwoodElwood…..Bass Cat Proud
someone showed me today how to measure that 3 and 1/2 inches below the pad (apparently just a starting point) mine is a tad over 5 inches under the pad. would have to take my motor off anyway to raise it so decided to go ahead with a manual jackplate here (since it will be off anyway). just been up jeams bayou and big green break, bet them poles come a lot faster now huh? i should even be able to run to the texas side now and not worry “to much” if the wind kicks up.
I don’t say this as an expert, because I’m not. When I bought my P-2 I figured I better educate myself on what could go wrong because of my inexperience with a performance boat. Chine walk has potential for disaster. This is what I learned from this board and other sources: chine walk is not something you should drive through. It can lead to your boat completely loosing it.What I’ve done is run the boat until it starts wobbling than I trim down a bit and slow down. Each time I’ve done this the next run I’ve been able to get it a little faster. My best run was 70.5 (P-2 with a 200 Opti). I’m sure it has another couple of mphs in it but my skill isn’t up to it yet, maybe next time.
I am doing the same thing, when it starts getting wild I back off and trim down to get her settled back down. I have owned a boat now for 19 years but never one this stout or with as much lift. Trust me I am taking it easy until I learn more about the boat. Heck I have three kids and a great wife to live for. No need to take it to the limits. Thanks for the much needed advise.ElwoodElwood…..Bass Cat Proud
