As some of you may or may not know the 2008 P II that I ripped the bottom off of this spring was replaced with a 2011 P II. The outboard on the boat now is the same one that was on the 2008. Ive been wanting to upgrade the engine to a 2011 Pro xs and if Im going to do so now is the time with the Merc promotions going on. There is nothing wrong with the current 200 opti on it now and it has probably 225 to 250hrs on it the main reason I wanna trade is to help the resale value in the future. What do yall think? Would it be a wise investment or not? What would be a good trade in value on my current outboard?
Chris,My father-in-law is a former old OMC dealer. He always said that boats/motors should be the same year or within a year of one another for maximum resale value. I do believe the newer boat with the older motor will hurt you when you get ready to sale or trade. I think the investment in a new motor is a wise choice, but I can not advise on the current value of a used motor. Unfortunately, my experience with selling used items has been nothing short of horrendous. Most used things I have sold brought pawn shop value. Best to you and your wonderful family,Carky

It depends on the trade/sales difference as it may be a wise investment to make.
No it doesnt Chet. The warranty has been out since August of 2010.
Chris I think you need to sell that Merc and get a 200 SHO.
I was waiting for that!
Simple,,,,, upgrade ! Extended warranty adds value, period.
The engine being out of warranty hurts more on the resale than the year the engine was built. Mercury hasnt used engine year models for several years now. If it were me, I would likely try to find the right opportunity to trade or sell the whole rig now. You might be able to offset the newer higher valued rig to offset some of the depreciation of the engine. I dont know your finances, so its comes down to what you want to do. By the way, get you a 200 SHO and depreciate it even more.
