Howdy…I would like your thoughts on setting up a Pantera IV, Im an ex champion driver and currently boat less. But I have decided to get back on the water and have spent many an hour on deciding on a new boat make. Even though I am in the southwest and there isnt a BCB dealer close I am pretty sure it the way Im going to go. I can truly say if there is one thing I have learned about BCB is they truly have customer confidence. So, getting back to my question, I mainly fish deep impoundments and Lake Mead, Clear lake a couple times a year so I think the Pantera will fit my needs. Just how would you guys set it up? Thanks for your thoughts in advance…..Steve
You cant go wrong with the P4, its a good boat in rough water. I would get all the options, saddle tanks, stereo, side imaging, network to both graphs, LED trailer lights, and the grab post and step and pop axle if you have to maneuver it in a tight spot in the garage.
I would get the things that would made it hard to add later. Get what you can afford and most of all Enjoy. I have had mine on lake Erie to lakes in southern Florida. They are truly a great boat. Please ask any question We will do our best to get you the answer
I have an 06 P4 and I would definitely go with the Fury prop. I have really noticed a difference in performance, lift and accelleration. The boat is also faster. The remainder is really up to your preferences. I do not have the saddle tanks. I have not had a need for them. Mine is a dual console and my next one will be single. However, the largest benefit to the dual console is the storage in the console. Go with the largest in console GPS you can. I did not and regret in now. The remainder, again, is your choice. It is a great boat and you cant go wrong with it. Good luck Steve
I agree on the Fury Prop comment. Its a strong must have in my opinion. Also, if you are putting boat in the water by yourself the trailer grab pole and trailer step is worth the every penny. The PIV is truly a great boat with incredible storage and rough water ride. Any motor you put on it will be a great choice. Good luck and keep posting questions. You have a great resource of BassCaters with PIVs to help.
I cant help w/ set up since I dont have a PIV, but Id sure look at these two if I was looking at the used market: 2006 PIV in AL or 2003 P3 in TN Good luck in your search for your perfect Cat.

Ditto to what Doug said, except…….dual console, Motorguide or Minn Kota, your choice there as well as engines. Probably going to be a larger base of Mercury service centers, so whatever is convenient and preferred by you and your mechanic. Dual Consoles- Plenty of room up front and is removeable if you prefer. Most of the time spent fishing is on the front 1/4 of the deck(if not smaller), thus there is ample room for passenger console and appeals to a larger market of potential buyers if you ever decide to sell it for a different model or newer year in the future. FWIW…good luck!Last edited by jignpig on December 21st, 2009, 10:28 pm, edited 1 time in total.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
As Flyswatter said for options, he is probably the most detail oriented P4 customer is years, and thats a great thing for someone like yourself, Id Instant Message him to speak “frankly”. for some reason the P4 likes the Yamaha and Evinrude Lower unit, its the Bullet design and the hull reacts very good with it, now you can get a great deal on a New 200 Series 2 HPDI or a ETEC 200 HO, Yamaha also is introducing its new for 2010 VMax 4 stroke, which may be a killer setup on the P4s intended Buyer. If your a Merc Guy only, well then the Verado 200 4cylinder would be a great Option in my opinion, if you like the Opti, then the 200 Pro XS works nicely also. BCB or others can post the #s if you like, I believe the Opti is about a 67-70mph boat, where the other 2 Direct Injected motors average about a 3mph+ top speed advantage. Id speak to Ivan or Rick at the factory and they can get technical into why different engines work differently. These days sir you will have good luck no matter what engine, trolling motor,or graphs that you get. BCB is a Motorguide and Humminbird optioned brand, meaning that those 2 cost a hair less than MinnKota and Lowrance, but as always the choice is yours. Any detail questions or most importantly color questions call day or night.,… Brannon 920-295-2069
