It was great. We shared a cabin with Ike and his girlfriend and also FLW Pros Pete Gluszek and Dave Mansue. Great folks! BR200 ended up 19th onthe co-angler side. He outfished his boaters all three days. I stunk it up.
Mike had a great tournament and was so close to winning the Classic. He has been on a role since he was able to fish some with BR200 back in July when practicing for the Stren Series on Champlain. I guess fishing with BR200 woke him up and Mike probably thought to himself that I need to get on the ball and win what I can before this kid gets up here with the “Big Boys”……LOL! Great job Mike. I am sure the BCB guys were pulling for you.
I saw it too, not pretty. Great show up until the end. This was the tournament that ended up tied. Went to sudden death so whoever caught the first legal bass (14″) won the tournament. Ike made a smart move not traveling far so he could fish immediately. Didnt work out as he caught fish but not legal size. When his watcher received a call advising the competitor caught a legal fish thus ending the tourney, Ike had a melt down. Something he has been good about NOT doing for some time. First he busted his rod on the side of the boat (took two tries). Then for an encore threw the bottom half of the rod and reel into the lake towards shore with lots of yelling to boot. Been nice if they edited out that part but then again, Ike would have been smarter to not put himself in the position of getting that act on film. I know he had to be unbelievably frustrated after getting so close to the win, especially after several 2nd places lately but as a professional you just cant do that stuff. Im sure he knows that and will be harder on himself then anyone else is going to be. Will be interesting to see if there is any fall out. Hopefully not.BTW – It wasnt clear to me who sponsored the tournament or how it came about but I missed the first few minutes of the program. Also, I think this event was discussed on here a while back when it took place. There were from folks from here at the event I seem to recall. There were some Bass Cat spectator boats in the background.Last edited by schodackbassman on December 18th, 2011, 9:04 pm, edited 2 times in total.
no way to me it just adds to his personality, its excitement and if there is a clip I ll be the first to watch it. I know I havent had a melt down that big but I have taken a few rods over the years and………..well sent them swimming. Doubt he ever reads this board but the action does what it does and thats spark conversation about him and his energy. Last edited by aniceguy on December 18th, 2011, 5:54 pm, edited 1 time in total.
? I thought all that was under control but i guess not. I didnt see the show only a 36 second highlight on youtube where he threw his fit at the end?.?I can undertand being alittle pizzed off but?-? throwing/ breaking all that free equipment /tossing it into the water?-life must be going well to do all that. The last time i threw a fit like that my daddy butsed my arse pretty good?He should of just kicked the HDS unit also with his yellow and white 1970s socks?like he did at Lake Guntersville a few years back and spit a few times .? He made it to the final day and placed 2nd ,i dont know what 2nd paid but be happy and go on and take it like a man. I?know he fished his heart out?but come up short ,worst case/best case they could of put 1st and 2nd place money together and split it at a gas station down the road like men should ,and told each other anybody could have won this lets split it up between us.??? Maybe?IKE is starting to fell like Aarron Martens( Greg Hackney/Keith Combs)?with a few?2nd places?behind KVD , those 2nd places add up more than some first places .IKE is a tremendous fisherman w a great heart just needs to control his emotions on TV sometimes.Last edited by FTDoo7 on December 18th, 2011, 6:06 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Damn people let the man be! I hope this doesnt turn into another 16 page Ike bashing. He had a meltdown – so what! If you ever met him or followed him fishing and talked to the guy off camera or read his books you would completely understand this. Im not taking up for him and I will admit Ive thrown and broke stuff too. But I do understand where it comes from and what kind of guy he is so please dont start bashing him trying to make him look like a POS. Seriously guys I dont think the Pierce family would have this guy on board if he wasnt a good guy. Everything about this company is first class including the anglers that represent them.

Ike wears his emotions on his sleeve. Some will find it as a negative and speak their opinion and that is fine also. It takes all of us to make the human race. He vented his frustration on a fishing rod, I have no problem with that, Ive seen a heck of a lot worse. All said and done awesome job Mike 2nd is still better than third.Brian BrianHAWG Hunter2013 BassCat Eyra2013 Mercury 250 Pro XS Gen2 L/U
I loved the show, what excitement. He is now #1 on my list of people I would love to fish with.
Rich hes definitely a fisherman for todays reality! Hes a super guy and super cool in person, maybe youll meet him at a BCB function.
Emotions on his sleeve – definately. When the cameras arent rolling – he seems to be a great and approachable person. Its schtick – dont buy too much into it.
WHAT HE DOES CANT COMPARE TO MY HOUSE WATCHING ALABAMA FOOTBALL…HE GETS A TAD NUTS,WE GET A TON NUTS….TO EACH HIS OWN…..
