Are in-dash flashers still standard equipment on most bass boats…and why? Yeah, I know they used to be the only fish/structure finding instrument we had available due to technological limits, but with color sonar and side-finder units, who still uses a flasher? I havent turned mine on in over two years, nor have many other bass boat owners I fish with in my Club. Is the in-dash flasher something that could eventually be phased out as standard equipment, ordered as an option, thus potentially saving the consumer a buck or two? Just interested in your thoughts!
Fill up space and they look cool
Many of us learned to “read” a flasher before any of the lcd type units were available, and to me it is an important option while running on unfamiliar waters,,,,, admittedly my gps knowledge isnt up to par, but the old flasher is a comfort item for me, and can be quite a tool if tuned properly. D.
My 06 Classic is the first boat with out a flasher. For years I relied on the flasher while running because they were easy to read while also watching the water ahead and they were fast real time bottom depth compared to the lag of the old paper graph or LCR units. at first I missed it but after I set up my 332c with the depth in the upper corner with numbers large enough to see while running I have to admit it is just as fast and I have gotten used to running with it. It has as most do, the flasher mode but I do not use it. What is real handy I have the depth numbers in the same place in full screen GPS mode also. I now think the old flashers are a thing of the past and do not miss it at all. Im one of them old school guys and had a hard time giving up my old zing zing zing paper graph. but we all have to try to keep up with the new technology if we want to maintain an edge on the new kids. after all age and experience can not be bought. as easy as the latest depth finders. Now all I have to do is figger out the new cell phones.
txmrbass has given a good reply to this. The older anglers, and the more serious ones, rely on a Flasher. We suggest the Vexilar flasher over the LCD Lowrance model. Though for running both work fine. The Flashers have been a back up for the past couple of years, in the event the LCR fails. It is a time honored tradition and we still install them for the serious anglers, Which we seem to have a higher percentage of. BCB
I for one love the flashers. Mostly because I fish in extremely shallow water and dont need the actual fish finding part of an lcd screen. I appreciate the accuracy and simplicity of the flashers. The depth reading is almost always reliable and is the best Ive found for reading depth at running speeds. Fish Magnet, If you have the old Zercom unit I would be more than happy to take it off of your hands. Mine has been out for a while and Ive not replaced it. I would love to find one that I could just plug in and go. Chris Coupel Paulina, la.Chris CoupelPaulina, La.
BCB, do you still offer the Vexilar flasher? I was told when I ordered my boat that you did not and only offered the Lowrance flasher.
Dont giveum any ideas! My 1440 fills up space, tells me how deep, grass, rocks, Temp., “fish”, sometimes! and is “really” cool! Let um work on the PIV/225 so I can buy a new one, maybe! Chuck
Remove the flasher and install a bigger unit. Thatll be next! You old tymers need to get up to date! There wont be a 225/P4 anytime soon! You can bet on it!
Like I said Prince Charming, Maybe! Maybe Not! Chuck
