Now that I have read all the great info on this site I am like a deer in the headlights don”t know which one to buy. They both sound like great boats in all kinds of conditions and fast. But both have their pluses. Skinny water, rough water etc. Have a chance to buy a great looking 08 Puma and really would like the 36V TM which this boat has a 24V on it. Really like the Cougar FTD a little better for rough water ride from what I read. Like the Cougar FTD storage in the rear better than the Cougar AE. The 09 Puma FTD might answer all my questions but the price.
Basically the choice is yours. The main difference is the interior layout. The Puma is the one known for its rough water ride as it is generally a little heavier due to layout and bracing for that. The Cougar FTD is known to be just a tad faster. Both are good choices and any BassCat can accomodate a 36v tm. You need to decide how you want the interior layout, net storage, etc. Yes, new boats will be more expensive than a used one, but a lot of the guys on the board turn over a new boat every year, so you can get a recent model and save a little. A new one you can customize from the start whereas a used one is specd out for someone else. Good luck!96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
One question answer could be financing and if you require financing then you will likely have to go new to get best terms. If you have a good local bank relationship, then you can probably make your choice.
Coming up with the money will be no problem. Have been reading alot of Skeeter vs Cat clashes about fishability weight contradictions in the 20 class
Make your decision based on what you want in a rig. Look at the engine, boat, electronics, troller, other items of your interest. Make a decision on a boat that you will be happy with for years to come. We want our owners happy, and that is what counts. If you want brand A motor, then so be it, and the same goes for Brand B boat and all the other items. We work very hard at what we do and we dont get into the details. We do have a few in the family who have owned both brands of boats and flipped around. They can give you an idea of their experiences with this and how things were handled. Though we dont think most will compare or share these experiences. They also want you to make the decision and if you have any questions we would be glad to answer them! BCB
And the answer to all your questions is simple, Buy Mine!!!!!!!! O7 Puma / 250 Pro xs Low hours. Pictures and equipment list at impactfishing.com. Chuck Bumpilori
tschooler, dont know what you mean about “Weight Contradictions” in your post above, clarify and Im sure someone will be able to answer. We will all give you our opinions. I have ridden and fished out of just about all of them. Here is my opinion – my Puma FTD rides better, faster, and fishes as good as anything on the water. It is solidly constructed – fit and finished to the 9s. I had a guy stop me on the water in another brand some months back and ask me if he could drive my boat and put the TM down to see how it fished. I said yep and he did. If you can get the money then you need to drive and operate both if there is another in contention. There are other good brands out there but the majority of Cat owners who ran something else previously will tell you that they have found the best. I am one.
Sorry should of put and weight contradictions. What is exactly the hull weight of the Puma and the Cougar FTD, I have been to the BCB site but on another site someone else was arguing the hull weight of some of the top brands of boats. Thanx
Sorry Chuck B, Actually looking for an 08 Puma DC, have to have dual console for my wife. Prefer 36V MK but that wont be my buying decision, low hours would be great, electronics and jack plate will be a consideration.
No Problem Buddie, Actually mine is a dual console with J/P, lowrance GPS, and warranty on the Mercury till March 2012. Insofar as weight goes they will all vary a little, the Puma on the web-site runs 1845 lbs. with the Cougar at 1765 lbs. I always used to figure “about” 20lbs. more for the dual console models. If thats not confusing enough Ill show you a “not” so old catalog that shows the Puma at 1700lbs. and the Cougar at 1605lbs. Either way, youll like it. Good Luck, Chuck
