Info about Atchafalaya Base in Morgan City La.

Need info about the Atchafalaya Base in Morgan City La. I fish the Fisher of Men south Arkansas division, Ive qualified for the Regional Tournament to be held in Morgan City, Ive google it and it sure is alot of water. If anybody knows a guide there that I could hire to show me around and get a little info from. The Tournament is Oct. 28,29 I would like to take at least 2 trips before the dead period. Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thank You, Derward Mauldin

Good question. It would appear that all the flood news about the Morganza Spillway and the river basin have dropped off the news in the last few weeks. I would have to guess that the water is still up in some areas.

catching keepers is the hard part. tons of 12-13 inch fish being caught farther north in the basin on crankbaits and topwater baits. gotta assume the morgan city area is experiencing the same.

By october the water will be at yearly lows and there should be some good fish caught. i will say it will take 17lbs a day to win probably that time of year. I wouldt start scouting until late august at the earliest. The basin changes from day to day with water levels and temps. If work permits i may be able to make a trip or two with you before your tx. Keep in mind i work shift work so i only have every other weekend off so you may have to be a lil flexible on our scout times.

Morgan city is @ a lil over 6 and and falling it should be on fire in October if Mother Nature dont screw us up with any storms !!! Check back a week or so before your tournament.

Hi DM,Ill be more than happy to help you. There is no way in hell you can just show up down here and expect to catch um. The river is falling and we started to catch fish in the basin this week. It will “pop” in 2 weeks. Doug thinks 17 lbs daily will win, and hes right it will, by more than enough. 14-16 lbs will have you right were you want to be. You will catch plenty of fish, but I have a different theory in the Basin than most people. I always stay within 1-2 miles of all the major lakes and Atchafalaya river when Im in the Basin. For what ever reason I never catch the numbers that others talk about ,but the majority of fish we catch are keepers.These lakes/river are:1-Grand Lake/Big Pigeon2-Murphy lake3-Duck Lake/Bayou Boutte4-Flat Lake/American Lake5-Atchafalaya riverI spend 80% of my time around Big Pigeon and Grand Lake. My camp is at Bayou Pigeon, If needed you can stay there, as long as we dont have another event and I dont think we do.. I am 15 minutes from Belle River Public and 25 minutes from Doirons landing. David dont forget there will be local teams fishing as well. i know in the past walker/bonadonna, england hudnall etc have showed for these events. Thats why i say 17 a day. that time of year off grand lake ought to be on fire if years past patterns hold true. Dont know if they have any boundries either. If not there are many other spots as well.

Come as close to the cutoff date as possible. Things will be a lot different in Oct.
