Can someone suggest a optimum place to put my Electrical inlet plug for my battery chargers? Also, if using hole saw to go through fiberglass do I need to tape off the area to prevent chipping and cracking of the Gel Coat? How thick is the fiberglass wall on my Sabre? Thanks! misr12Last edited by misr12 on May 6th, 2008, 12:09 pm, edited 1 time in total.
I know some have done that, but I dont think it is recommended for several reasons. Others will be along to give you more specifics. If you decide to do it, be sure you continue to prop open a rear compartment lid to allow fumes to escape. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
Dont do it, just another potential battery charging issue to have to fix when youd rather be fishin, Not to mention cutting extra holes in a perfectly good boat ! Just run the battery charger cord out the tubing into the splashwell, and as stated, be sure and leave your hatch open while charging, always. My $.02 ! D.
I agree with the dont do it theory… Instead of running it out the tubing, I wrap it around the bungee on the lid and then that forces me to open that back hatch to plug it in and keep it open. Good luck…seems to me I remember the Sabres not having that bungee but just another idea. Judd Lasiter
I purchased an electrical plug-in and just couldnt bring myself to make a hole in the boat. I returned the plug-in and ran the charger cord up through the vent tubing. I placed some velcro on the cords plug and the inside of the chrome vent scoop. That keeps the cord from falling back into the back battery storage area. I have been using this arrangement for over a year with no problems. Ron
I agree with Basschaser. At home I have a cord on a retractable reel just above rear of boat; on the road I carry a good heavy cord in the boat/ truck. I always leave the rear hatch open, usually just prop it on the plug to allow to vent.
Dont do it. A bass cat will last a long time. Most likely far longer than any charger or connector you install. Once you drill the hole, you are stuck in that location, and if that particular connector fails in 4-5 years due to corrosion or whatever, chances are good you wont find a replacement. Different hole size or different screw locations, etc. The simplest solution is to raise the back lid and plug things in. I know that ultra-neat counts for something to many, but I dont think this is a place where installing some sort of flush-mount is worth the future hassle. Just replacing a trolling motor receptacle can be a real pain, for those that have done it multiple times… Next year always has a better connector idea that is incompatible with last years now obsolete idea… BTW the wise man always has the rear compartment open when charging. Batteries produce pure hydrogen as a by-product of the charging cycle. It is lighter than air and will rise and disperse if the compartment is open. Otherwise it is a highly explosive gas (remember the Hindenburg blimp disaster anyone?) that needs to be vented out of that enclosed space before a simple spark like a bilge/livewell pump causes an eruption you want to avoid…Last edited by oldtimer57 on May 6th, 2008, 11:53 pm, edited 1 time in total.2008 Pantera Classic2014 Mercury Pro XS 200
I agree with all posters. Do not install the plug. There is nothing wrong with just pulling the male plug out of the hole where the other wiring comes out for the motor. You know, the spot where the rubber cover is cinched down with the tie-wrap. You might have to replace the tie-wrap once you pull it out there. Just let it hang toward your splashwell. Dont forget to leave the lid open when charging.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
Here I am running the wrong way on a one way street but heres mine and I love it but it is an older boat 1998 PII , I am though running also 3- CD Technologies UPS AGM High Output Batteries that are completely sealed I think you can install them upside down if you want. The connector is Made by Marinco Company
Hey, your installation looks great! Nothing wrong with that. You did a good job.Everyone should believe in something. I believe Ill just go fishing!
