Installing Humminbird 797 tonight on Pantera IV, any last minute advise?

Nervous as a cat in a room full of rocking chairs about where to mount that sidefinder transducer, on the hull or the jackplate. Anyone else ever install a sidefinder on their P4? BCB, I know you guys must have, any advise on where/how to mount it? Also, BCB, is there any kind of adapter plate you make that could alow me to mount it in the X-15 hole in my dash, like an aftermarket stereo in a truck dash? Thanks

There is not a face plate to make this adaptation. Those who have done this have cut their own insert cover plate. The flat panel could have one built for it, though there are very few needs for this panel and volume is only a couple of parts a year. BCB

I mounted a 522c onto the bar using a 4 wheeler adapter from RAM, a midsection from RAM, and the bracket that came with my 522. I say dont put holes in the boat, mount it on a removable bracket for a unit that small. Leave the flasher in place. Lord knows we all change graphs so much that I wouldnt burn bridges if I didnt have to. As for the hull application if I was scared about location whats the problem with trying some silicone first- use the boat a few times and then if you like it you can get the silicone off and go to epoxy- What do the smart folks around here think of silicone first?C.O.D. That rules me out, but i think the silicone would have too much void in it with air to heve a good clear reading,,,,but may be wrong. That would make twice in one year, D.

Dang…to bad you said smart folks. With that said basketboy you shouldve kept your fingers quite too Judd Lasiter PS – good luck with the install, I personally would opt for drilling and tapping the jackplate. One of the best ideas I have seen to cover up the hole is use plexi-glass and paint it prior to putting it in there then cut the hole in it for the new graph.

I just went through the whole ordeal on my Cougar. I mounted the transducer on the right side of the jack plate. works great EXCEPT, withe the motor all the way down, it shields the view to the left. Triming the motor up a few degrees helps. I am still looking to optimize that location. The transducer is useless at any speed above 10 MPH due to the turbulance. I had a dual scan in the hull so I hooked up a transducer switch from Humminbird so I can switch over when the signal from the SI gets lost. Works great up to about 43mph, then to much turbulance under the hull. Side note, I had the SI on the trolling motor, (motorguide tour) had all kinds of interferance, Humminbird sent me a wiring modification kit and a new Nickle plated transducer NO CHARGE. Humminbird Rocks! milton

Im getting ready to do the same thing except mine isnt going to be flush mounted. I also plan on installing the transducer on the jackplate and I too am nervous about the process. Any helpful tricks to properly drilling and tapping the jackplate is appreciated.

Thanks for all the tips and links guys! I dont know that I am mounting mine flush either, I am going to decide at the last minute. I would also appreciate any tip son the drilling and tapping of the jackplate, as I am a mechanical idiot!

Drilling into the jack plate is not a big issue. And you can tap it or through bolt the bracket. BCB
