Hello everyone,Been awhile since posting but have trolled often. Had been having a problem with my cranking battery being drained while storing my 07 PIV with 200 Merc Opti and SmartCraft gauges…went through 2 or 3 batteries before me and a buddy (who is a bit more electronically savvy than I) finally figured out what the gremlin was…apparently there is a short in the bilge pump wires somewhere leading out of the pumps. It would seem to be quite a chore to separate these wires from the bundle with all of the others in order to inspect the wires, so I was thinking that installing a master power switch off of the cranking battery would be the way to go (since discovering the problem I have been disconnecting the positive side of the battery). Just wondering if there were any suggestions or helpful info out there…is this an easy fix? Thanks in advance!

The new main circuit breaker has a switch on it. Though some also run a Perko master switch which is a larger red dial with a black knob and attach everything to the Perko.BCB

Whats the “new main circuit breaker” youre referring to? Is this the master power switch near the drivers seat and below the throttle? If so then I do make sure that it is off when not in use, thats one of the reasons I originally didnt understand the cause for the slow battery drain. Thanks, Ill look into the Perko master switch

The drain is called parasitic drain from engine, stereo and other electronics that stay hot all the time on a main line. THe Perko will eliminate this. The new breaker switch will not shut down the engine, only the boat. Part of storing a boat for more than a couple of weeks is the battery drain, which is why the Premium units all have the new BUSS breaker.

Noticed a similar problem on my boat a year ago. Was ready to replace , again, my battery but installed one of the Perko style knobs on my battery and have had no problems since. Simple to do – I did it – simple to use.
