This is a thread mostly about BCBs on the BBC Triton forum – thought you might find it an interesting read. Link
They are just mad because they are always behind us, both going down the lake and at the scales!!! They would appreciate the bolt a little more if it wasnt so blurred as we pass them! Trust me, I have a buddy who has fished out of a Triton on a team deal for several years now. He comes up my way occasionally to see his family, and he fishes some jackpots with me when he is up. Last summer I let him drive my Puma and his exact words were that the boat “hunts people down!”. He loved the speed, holeshot, and most of all the ride. He was very impressed, and that was coming from a guy who drives a “toon” all the time. We traveled together and fished the opens and he always laughs about how he ” lets me lead” when we leave the ramp and take off to practice.
Some interesting reading there on the Toon page. Not sure Id let the design of a boats console be the guiding light over my next boat purchasing decision, ALL things considered.
Thanks rudapa for bringing this to our attention. No problem and some of this is a Ford vs. Chevy, vs Chrysler comparison. Though other parts include purposeful designs and we function again rules for us. 1. Obviously the dash is a trade off for us. The one you imaged on that page is a limited gauge use dash. We have the capability to use everything from a 997si down to the smaller units in the right side. That smaller unit does detract from the appearance with the flat red outer surrounding it. A 28c would look most uniform in that slot, and the 997si looks good as well. Take one of these and load the dash with analog gauges and fill that red console up, then you have a more sporty appearance. Though you will loose some of the other gauge functions on the digital units. Some can be regained on Merc with the mini gauge for Smart Craft, though not all. So load more gauges in one, and the appearance is improved greatly. Plus those aluminum bezels are not cheap! The dashes may change some in time, though overall function will remain imperative, which is why those cowl vents are inset as they are. They dont like those fuel fume in the bilges, and we have some though less than others. The vents are a major reason for less fuel fumes in a Bass Cat boats boxes and bilge than our competitors. We prefer the improved venting. On the older HPV reference, we had those fins in the 70s with rails in them and an HPV doesnt look much like a BCB. Opinion is fine here. As for the livewells, we too like a plug, though dont forget that when we went and polled all of Bass Boat Central and you as owners of a bass boat, and you all were resoundingly in favor of keeping the livewell valves. http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com/zerothread?id=37400 Here is our Thank You for those woh participated also. http://bbcboards.zeroforum.com/zerothre … 386#304386 Plus these are fiberglass livewells and no plastic boxes floating on a top cap assembly, or not an aluminum grillage under the carpet with plastic boxes fixed to that aluminum frame on another brand. Plus they have always been larger than the competitions. And you only should measure below the overflow as the air space above the overflow is not holding water. The new Cougar FTD with trianlge shaped wells adds over 10 gallons of capacity above a Puma or other models. Puma and the former Cougar FTD were the same capacity within ounces. Though they did appear different in size. We try to do as much as we can in fiberglass. After all you are trying to buy a “Fiberglass” boat are you not. Aluminum boat have those stick in plastic boxes, we dont think they are high enough quality for our products. All fiberglass boxes cost more and are better to install properly. Some dont like the rails slots on the boats, which we polled also and less than 2% did not like the hand rails. While others the bolts on the sides are not appealing, and we think we know how a poll on that would go! Though overall it is a choice of what you want. And often we have asked you what you want! We just keep trying to do a better job~! BCB Last edited by Bass Cat Boats on January 28th, 2008, 3:43 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Dont sweat too much of the haters! You guys at BCB are the absolute best! Keep doing what you do, its awesome!
I like the dash, the lightning bolt, and everything else about the Bass Cat boats ive owned since 1990, and will continue to support BCB with my business as long as i can fish. Being the “farm club” of the bass boat industry isnt always easy, and some innovations are a bit before their time, and take awhile to catch on,,,,but they have all come around to the ideas, especially the functional enhancements they didnt think of ! But each individual is different in their likes and desires, thus so many manufacturers and design differences to please each taste. No harm , no foul,,,,just differences. The difference is, im gonna be dry and able to walk when i get back to weigh-in !
BCB, awesome reply and please dont get me wrong – I put the link here just so one could see what stuff is being said. It was not meant as an attack in anyway!! The console is certainly very functional – but also the first thing non BCB owners point to as a reason they wont own a cat. I would take functional over sporty everytime if I couldnt have both. My search for the “next boat” is down to a Puma and a X2 with Puma being in the lead by a good distance at this time. Other brand owners will often talk down everything but their currently owned brand. I think one can find good and bad in all of them and that like anything it comes down to which one adds up with the most good qualities and the least bad. My current triton has gas smell in the rod lockers – so Id welcome some chrome vents. The console on my Triton is “sportier” than the cat, but it is also covered in plastic and it would not hold a 28C or HB 997. Again trade offs. If the worst thing about the Cat is the console shape – then it will be hard for others to compete.
I sometimes wonder if people are more interested in a beauty contest or fishing. Although if there was a beauty contest, I wouldnt hesitate to put my Cat in it. Anytime anyone says something negative about my Cat, the reply is “dont tell the fish”. When I was looking for just a boat and trailer to fit my motor ( long story) BCB was the only one to help. And I was pleasantly surprised with the “looks” and quality. Beauty is in the eyes of the beholder. As a co-angler I have ridden in all of the other brands, as I suspect most of the others on this board have, and I dont think I have ever refused to get in a boat because the way the dash is layed out. And I can honestly say I dont think it improved or hurt my fishing. JD POWERS and this board says it all. Martin
The size of the consoles also help deflect alot of wind in the colder months when running at WOT. It also deflects more rain when running as well. Yes, that picture could have more gauges, but, the console is all fiberglass. I have never had a problem fishing with a larger console….each company will have fishermen who prefer this over that, and this was a very good article. For the most part, the Triton guys, with one or two exceptions, didnt bash other brands, just prefer theirs. Just the fact that some other brand owners look at Cats at boat shows/dealerships shows that a lot of people want to know about the innovations and quality that we all talk about regularly. 96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
I would assume that livewell plugs are not an option then since most seem to prefer the valves.
