Is having a gun for home defense important?

Yep it was me. Sleeping in my bed with my family home at 6:05 on a Sunday morning, in what is traditionally been considered the nicest and safest neighborhood in our town. Guy kicked the glass out of my front door and just walked right in.

Alright, the article said the tweeker had to be treated for minor injuries? I think you must have shown greater self-restraint that most on the board!Seems like this experience might change a few minds. Glad you and your family are safe.John

Much appreciation for that BCB. A million thoughts went through my head – it was dark and storming. I couldnt see him very well until he passed by a window and was illuminated by an outdoor light. Up to that point I was trying to determine if it was one of my teenagers or perhaps one of their friends. I had been awake less than 30 seconds and had no glasses on. I didnt know if my daughter was asleep on the couch behind him or if she had gone upstairs ( she was watching a movie there when I went to bed). So after a lifetime of thinking it would never happen, there I was going through the algorithm I had rehearsed in my head for use of deadly force to protect my family. But the key here was that my weapon gave me options and control of a really awful situation. It saved my family and probably saved him also. It made me less desperate and more rational. And thank goodness even a drugged out meth head can still somewhat comprehend that the sound of a pump shotgun clambering a round means something bad is about to happen.

Hes minus a few more teeth. Had his head pinned against the door frame of my bedroom with shotgun barrel in his mouth. He had a few cuts from breaking windows. Those were his minor injuries.

Sorry you had to endure this situation. And glad you and yours are safe. Sounds as you handled yourself accordingly with all the unknowns. Could have been totally different had you not been armed. And yes the sound of a shotgun chambering a shell in is unmistakeable.

Seems you handled that situation very well. We all play that through our heads over and over and think we know what we will do if it happens but the reality is you never know how you will respond until put in the predicament. But you are right, the sound of a pump shotgun chambering a shell is very intimidating. My wife keeps one right next to her pretty head for that reason.
