Well after getting Hugh Crumplers boat dialed in I have been enjoying this boat like crazy! Fishes 3 great and can fish 4 also. My wife and I work in the youth group in our church and I have been taking some underpriveleged kids with no fathers fishing. So after a good day fishing me and two teen boys were cutting across lake Eustis on the Harris chain when bang! Engine shuts down and does not start. After a 3 hour trolling motor ride back to the ramp I take off the cowling and see chunks of metal and now I can see my engines internals through the large hole in the block. My question is, where is the best place to get my 250 v max fixed. it is a 2002. Would I be better off finding a used one or rebuilt motor. Money is a huge factor and I have no clue how much this sort of thing cost to repair. thanks Keith
Ouch. It will likely be very costly. But, you were doing a good thing by getting underpriviledged youth involved in fishing. I hope you get fixed up soon. KentKent Charles 2002 Pantera Classic & 200 Yamaha VMax
Dang that sux!!!! One thing I have learned is BCB has a knack for aligning themselves with top notch customer service dealerships. I would take my boat to: Advanced Marine Mercury/BRP/Yamaha Owner: Jason Wagner Sales Mgr: Joe Clements 1322 Carolina Avenue • St. Cloud, FL 34769 • 407-498-5142 And see what they say. Be prepared because a new powerhead isnt cheap and if you have blown a hole in the block odds are it cant be rebuilt and you will be looking at a reman or new powerhead and a bill probably in the 4-5K range. Good luck and I hope it isnt too bad. Judd Lasiter
Called my local Yamaha dealer and said a factory new powerhead installed would be approx. $ 5500.00 does that really sound about right? If so I am in trouble with the little lady of the house!
That price wouldnt surprise me. Sounds like you have some tough decisions ahead of you and a Mrs. that youll have to keep in check at the same time. Good luck and hope you get it repaired soon.
Bobby Dittos son does some repair work on Yamaha engines up in the Palatka area. We think he prefers to work on those older EFI and Carb Yamaha engines and tries to be reasonable from our understanding. He was interested in a dealership in that area at one time, though it would take some effort for them. Someone around Palatka will know how to get in touch with Bobby if you cant find his son. We think this is be type shop that your looking for if you dont have one in mind. If you want to spring for new any Yamaha dealer can handle it and it is just a bolt on powerhead.
Found a guy that will come to my house and take the powerhead off take it back to his shop and come back and install the powerhead for $3500. 3 year warranty. 1 year full and 2 years split parts and labor. Anyone heard of http://www.chriscarsonmarine.com/ Does this sound like a good deal? Keith
hey skiffy. curious question. that year 250 is whats referred to as a series 1 engine. did you ever have the oil pump replaced under the factory recall??? if not, then you may wanna contact customer service at yamaha and see what they say. the series 2 engine now has an improved oiling system. lots of those older engines were popping power heads. its worth a try to see what they will do for ya. and heres another option. contact wayne at hydro-tec. he may have some suggestions for ya. as they are THE YAMAHA GURUs. 417-725-5746 I hope it all works out for ya.
Steves right but he is referring to an HPDI series one motor and I believe you have the OX66 (if I remember correctly). That motor did not have a recall on it. The Hydrotec recommendation is dead on and I shouldve thought about that one. If you get a reman powerhead from Yahama it is Waynes crew who is rebuilding them. That doesnt sound like a bad deal as long as you have some recommendations locally of the guys work. I would have a hard time dropping that sort of $ not knowing anything about the guy. JL
I did not see a listing for Bobby Ditto, but there is a number for Bruce Ditto, Putnam County Blvd., E. Palatka: (386 312 9928). Also a number listed for Michael Ditto, Satsuma, FL, just below Palatka. His number is (386 328 8151). At one time, the Dittos had one of the largest Ranger dealerships in the country, right in the middle of the Bass Capitol of the World. I think the numbers listed are for his sons. My grandson and I fished with Hugh Crumpler in the late 90s on Stick Marsh. We had a great time and caught a lot of bass. We went back on our own later and caught over 40 bass, our best ever catch trip. A few years later, I burnt up my motor there on hydrilla. It was a 150 Mercury and I had it rebuilt for the second time and it ran as good as ever. I sold it when I bought my new Bass Cat and it was still running fine, now almost 18 years old. Both times, hydrilla and poor hearing (couldnt hear the alarm) caused the damage. The last time I added a large warning light. I guess Hugh has retired. Good luck with your repair. Skipjack.
