jack plate problems

It may not be crooked, and we doubt it is as some plates were (are) manufactured actually out on the tops back a couple years ago. The center line is in as is the motor in those we have seen. And we cross measured several back then to verify the offset. Plus from experience those that are twisted have no effect on chine walk. This is just a kearnjbg curve and raise the plate to where you have only a moderate amount of steering wheel torque. We have set engines as much as four inches out if center line and chine walk is not effected. If it were out tremendously you might notice some listing though not chine walk. Set it to where you have torque and take your time learning. You may get a Dealer or an individual who is very experienced to drive it for confidence in the driving ability. That is the best scenario and learning from time on the water or seat time.

I bet most of it is in your prop. Some walking may be little experience driving at wot. Get someone to help you with both issues and leave the jack plate where there is good water pressure and little torque a wide open throttle.

As confusing as this sounds, we dont think that your plate is crooked. There were a few plates back then that were machined in different tolerances from side to side, though the actual plates are level in relationship to the bolt holes. Which the engine mounts to as the plate mounts to the boat. The only thing we would concern ourselves with is finding the right steering torque and height to get it. We know this does not answer your question, though it was extremely hard to figure this out, even with the plates disassembled and using squares and tapes to measure it.
