Just wondering if the added 2 inches of an 8″ jackplate from my current 6″ Slidemaster would make any difference in holeshot or driveability? Contemplating options for when I get ready to repower my 2002 P3. Looking into putting a new 200 Pro XS on the back of my boat within the next year. Also are there 2 inch spacers that would work with my current 6″ Slidemaster that mount between the plate and the outboard? Just looking into options in advance. Thanks for the help!J

As with all the Bass Cat jackplates it is a 6 bolt mount. BCB

New boats go up to an 8 inch jackplate. Over that would void warranty. Check with BC regarding older/ earlier 2000s boats.If you are getting a new plate, needs to be the 6 bolt BassCat style jackplate.96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

I called the factory with he jackplate question and Rick himself answered it for me. I told him my year and model(02cougar) and he mentioned that in their tests it hadnt made a significant difference in performance and the multiplied effect of strain on the transom with a 10in plate simply wasnt worth it. A larger setback is usually to increase bow lift and bass cat doesnt have a problem in that area. I would be carefull in this area. Im quite sure Rick doesnt let anything on those boats without a reason. If nothing else, a quick call to the factory will answer everything. Good luck.

its not going to make that much difference in handling or driveability. If you have an issue with chine walking then you just need to learn how to drive. Spacers will work also and they can be purchased at numerous online outboard parts stores. I would save my money on both and spend it on gasoline or something.

Thanks for the advice PA. The chine walk does not bother me that much. I have started getting the hang of it. I was just wondering about advantages of the 8″ setback over the 6″ and how it might impact holeshot and/or driveability. It just seems most of the newer Cats come with 8″ plates while the older ones have 6″ plates. Just wondering why the change. I will probably keep what I have except for adding a new Pro XS or maybe a SHO next year.

The 8″ plates that BCB uses are hydraulic in nature. 6″ plates are the norm for manual plates. One of the reasons is a hydraulic jackplate can be too low and some will want to tilt their engine all the way up causing damage to the aluminum strip along the transom and some even damaging the hydraulic steering fittings. The Detwiler hydraulic plate is not even 8″ plate. It measure 7 3/8″.

Both manual and hydraulic on BCB plates are now 8″ for both versions. You will see no significant performance difference other than clearance for tilting. BCB
