Is there any reason why the passenger rod compartment doesnt have a piston. It seems like it would be pretty easy to snap a rod if the lid accidentlly closed. My partner has already had a few close calls.ThanksMikeMike Caponigro Cary, IL 2010 Jaguar/ Merc 250 Pro XS http://www.xtremek9.com
Mike it gives you an advantage if you fish in a draw tournament.Your partner snaps enough rods he cant fish.
With the short opening it is hard to get the gas shock in there properly and it not be in the way.
On the original Jag I used that passenger compartment a lot, and I never had that problem, mainly because the lid had enough clearance that it opened past vertical and just rested against the gunwale. Youd have had to kick the opposite side to make it shut hard enough to do damage and your rod would have had to be sticking out in a way that would have been begging for trouble no matter what. It looks to me like the new box is larger and has some design improvements, and it looks like the lid opens similarly, so Id say putting a shock in there would be unnecessary. One thing I like about the new box design is that it isnt carpeted. On the old box, its shallow depth and narrow width meant that the treble hooks on your lures would often snag when hooked to your reel. I was able to adjust how I stowed my tied-on bait to reduce the frequency of the problem, but taking the carpet out would seem to make it that much easier to deal with the more compact space of a convenient 3rd rod box. (Dont forget the original Jag had only one full size box!)Cheers,Scott
There is so enough storage in the boat to house a family. I figured it would be tough to get a piston in there but I thought I better ask…just in case. My rods wont be in there, so my partner will just have to be careful (LOL).MikeMike Caponigro Cary, IL 2010 Jaguar/ Merc 250 Pro XS http://www.xtremek9.com
Brightwork, The later rod boxes are now carpeted by request. They can get a little moisture in them from varying sources such as the handrail pockets and grommets. That was the reason they were not carpeted and would have to ordered as a gel box if requested. The rod box is larger that the original Jaguar. It is not the same format, though we shared many of the floor plan features on the original Jaguar. People really liked the original Jaguar and eventually it just ceased to have a retail demand. Which has always perplexed us when it was and is so popular. Be nice to your partner there Mike! BCB
Sometimes theres just no accounting for what turns people off. I LOVED Dads Jaguar. He had a little 150 on it for BASS when he first got it, which made it pretty slow, but the rough water ride and all the little details (like that rod box and lots of others) made it a whole lot of fun to fish out of. I just recently ran across some pictures of that boat that Ill have to scan and post here sometime. Talk about a stable deck– there was no rocking that thing no matter how close to the edge you stood. With Dad, I usually wouldnt let him have the front deck to himself, especially when pitching and flipping. Can you imagine two guys both 6 foot plus standing on one side of the deck– toes against gunwales– leaning out and flippin at grass mats? Stability was definitely key. I LOVED that Jaguar. If I had to guess, Id say one reason retail demand might have waned was possibly because of the Pantera 3. You guys put a lot of the Jags features in that 19 footer, so fisherman could get a whole lot of boat in a bit smaller package. I cant remember what the weight difference was, but Im guessing it was at least a couple hundred pounds. The P3 was another awesome boat that also had an innovative passenger rod holder that many boats now feature. I remember Ron letting us take his P3 for a ride during the OI (in 98 I think?), but thats another story. Best,Scott
Actually the Jaguar slowed down in the early 200o years, and in 2003 the Cougar FTD really replaced the volume and the Puma in 2005. Which was the last year of the old Jaguar. BCB
Aah. That makes sense as newer 20 foot models entered the lineup. When was the last model year for the P3?
