Hello all, Im not yet an official owner but Im ordering my first Cat, a Puma FTD within the next couple of weeks. I think this owners board is awesome. Ive been doing a lot of reading on here for the past several months researching for my new purchase. Everyone on here seems to be so helpful and willing to lend legit advice. Ive got a couple of questions Id like to ask of you guys before I place my order so I can get advice on some setup issues and order it right the first time. Here it goes:Those of you that have the new style consoles on a Puma, are the small windscreens effective enough or are they too samll especially in rain or cold weather? If you have a Lowrance HD system with Structure Scan where did you mount your LSS-1 module. which compartment seems to be the best or worst choice? And where did you mount the structure scan transducer? To the transom or on the jack plate? Thanks in advace for your input.
I have not noticed much difference between the large and small windshield. Pretty amazing because the smaller windshield is probably 5Xs smaller. Get the smaller windshield because it looks much better in my opinion. As far as the Lowrance module………………..my guess is it will be mounted under the console. BCB does a good job figuring the best places to mount those type of things. Youll love that Puma FTD. Its the best of the best!
I own the newly released BassCat Eyra with the new consoles and I have found great wind protection with them vs my previous basscat boats with larger windshields. You cant go wrong with the PUMA. Also, consider the new Eyra and read Kevin Shorts article posted on this site. Its very informative per basscats premium boats for an Elite angler on the B.A.S.S. trail. Congrats on your decision. You are very wise. Owning a bass boat is a major investment and the support you get from BassCat is going to extend many years of great boat ownership past your initial purchase. Welcome to the family.
Ive got a PIV and mounted the LSS boxes in the right rod box in front of the drivers console, I mounted the rear transducer on the jackplate and its worked well there. Im running another structure scan transducer on the trolling motor for the down scan view. I used the transducer mounts from Scap and Shirley at Transducer Shield and Saver, they are well worth it. Mike
Thats cool, I would have bet there would be a BIG difference between the two sizes just by looking at them. Thanks Phil

Mike Thats exactly where I have it mounted now in my 20X. But Im considering putting a stbd rod rack in that compartment in the Puma. I thought about under the Drivers console like Phil mentioned but thought it may be better to be out of sight and dry in a compartment somewhere.Ive seen pics of the Transducer shields for the structure scan and they do look nice and rugged for sure.
Ive talked to two owners of Cats with the smaller windscreens. One has told me that they offer little or no protection from the wind at all, he was planning on ordering the larger windscreen. The other owner has told me they offer very good protection. Ive not ridden in a Cat with the newer style, so I cannot speak from experience. As you can see from comments on this thread, there are others who think the new style is great. While I like the looks of the new style, I just dont see how it could be very functional. But…you pay your money and your take your choice. Congrats on chosing a BassCat and welcome to the Family…no matter what style windscreen you decide on!!
After 9 Bass Cat boats with the previous 8 having the larger windscreens, I can not tell any difference. Though, I am one of those that could probably run one without a screen at all. I will say there is a large difference between having the small windscreen and no windscreen. Under the console is 99% dry. Only moisture there is from the air. My jack plate brains are mounted there as well as the link box for the BCB gauges. Prior to BCB gauges, Mercury smartcraft link box was located there. Again, BCB will mount them that gives the best location for functionality and reliability.

There is not any difference from my personal experience dating back 5 plus months with these new windshields. If there was I would post it.
