Good Morning,I posted recently about buying property on either Smith Mountain, Kerr, & Gaston lakes and appreciate the information I got from you guys here on the Bass Cat site, but I am finding out these areas sure out of the way and nothing too close in any direction. MOMMA IS NOT THRILLED IF YOU KNOW WHAT I MEAN!I am now going to at least take a look at the Raliegh / Durham area and was wondering if any of you could give me some information on Jordon Lake and Falls Lake? Thank you for you help!Troy
Ahh! City life! Green Acres is not the place for you then! Best of luck in your thoughts, are you open to a move to another state, or are you locked in on NC for family reasons? BCB
BCB,We live in Florida and our family is in Raliegh, Roanoke, and Chesapeake, so Kerr & Gaston was the original plan to put us in the middle of all three with out being on anyones doorstep.Decisions! Decisions! Decisions!Too or Not Too to keep Momma Happy!Troy
I live in Raleigh, NC about 5 mins from Falls Lake and 40 mins from Jordan Lake. You wont find any lakefront property on either lake….Kerr, Gaston, Hyco, Mayo to the N/W are your best bets there or anywhere on the Catawba River chain farther south (James, Hickory, Norman, Mt. Island, Wylie). Falls, Jordan, and Shearon Harris are great fisheries around Raleigh/Durham though. Limit used to be minimum of 16″ fish but they just changed to normal state limits (2 12″, 3 14″). Lots of big fish in all 3. Not uncommon to take 5 fish for 25-30 lbs to win tournaments on these lakes.
You are only an hour or less from Raleigh at either Gaston or Kerr. I prefer Gaston for several reasons, but thats just me. The town of Roanoke Rapids is just east of Gaston. They have a Wal Mart and a Cracker Barrel. What else do you need? And dont forget, R&K Marine, your local Bass Cat Dealer is in Knightdale.
Which one of these towns would offer the most ammenities as far as Grocery, Restauraunts, Shopping? (Roanoke Rapids / South Hill / South Boston / Clarksville / Henderson) Any thing in references to these areas would help.I am familiar with R&K and have stopped in a few times when I was in the area and found them to be very nice.Thank you again for all of the help!Troy
I am not familiar with the mentioned towns. I live in New Bern, and just spend the night in Henderson and Roanoke Rapids when I fish Kerr and Gaston. Some one on this board must live around those lakes. Also, check on the net with realtors and see what kind of info they can give you. Henderson and Roanoke Rapids are decent size towns, and I am sure they all provide necessary services.
i live in raleigh and fish every lake around. i was just at gaston this past weekend and it took me about an hour and 15 minutes to drive there from downtown. As far as what your wife is looking for, North Raleigh is probably your best bet. puts you within minutes of falls and saves you a little bit of time when going to hyco, mayo, kerr, and gaston. puts you a little further from jordan and harris but not by much. I live near ncsu and i am equal distance from harris, falls, and jordan; about 25 minutes from each. whatever you do, do not move to henderson. thats all i am saying.
I know what you are saying! LOL
As a backup, check out High Rock lake just outside of Lexington NC. Really close to Winston Salem, Greensboro, and Charlotte. Also has some fine Bar B Que and some great Southern Hospitality.Good Luck
