Today we are all being informed of the decision from BCB to cancel the open invitational. Guys, first off, while disappointed with the decision and not being able to attend my first invitational, I would like to say that this has to be the most unselfish decision I have ever seen made from a company. The compassion towards each of the “family” members is incredible which in return makes for a very successful and reputable company. There is also an important thing that I would also like to point out in the days to come after the cancellation notice. As BCB stated, there have been alot of people that have come together to make this a large and great planned event. My point being with everything is this…………. I feel like there has been a profound show of leadership from BCB regarding the sole reasons for cancelling the tournament. I think we should carry out the rest of the unselfishness by waiving our deposit refunds from the Mountain Home and surrounding area lodging facilities. Though some of the companies may be able to provide the refunds, there are others that will have a hard time or long time to recover from the financial burden. This could also have a hard economical consequence, though temporary, for the local lodging businesses. With this said, I hope that we can return some of the same compassion that has been shown to us. Since most of us if not all of us have made the reservations well in advance, we have already absorbed the cost in our bank books. I do realize that there are some that may balk at this idea, but feel that many others, most others, will embrace it. I may have rambled a bit to get my point acrossl, but it was weighing on me pretty hard and wanted to express. Hope to see everyone at the next planned OI.
Are you serious Clark?
why would anybody embrace the idea of losing their hard earned money?
millpond wrote: why would anybody embrace the idea of losing their hard earned money?I have to agree with millpond. We in Arkansas have been hit with tornados and flooding as well. Part of I-40 between Memphis and Little Rock is shut down due to flooding and may be for a few more days. Why should people “waive” deposits and such, if it changes their plans? Unless they are told up front that it would be forfeited, it should be an option to return. Called early cancellation, especially if it was still 2 weeks away. That is gas money for a fishing trip closer to home.I do appreciate the integrity of BassCat and agree with the decision for the most part. Ive made plans to return to the OI this year after watching my wife battle breast cancer/chemotherapy/ bilateral surgery and reconstruction in the last year. May 3rd was 1 year ago her last chemo treatment. There are others that have personal issues at home as well and for that week, it is an “escape”.There will be other OIs in the coming years, Im sure. Just not for me this year.Hoping to go to one next year, wherever it is held…………just my 2 cents. 96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner

The decision is utter nonsense and merritless. I am sorry but I have actually lost respect for BC not gained anything for the leadership and no its not about the measly 300 bucks gone in deposits. The fact are the economy is crap, the locals need this event and count on this event to survive. Its pretty selfish of BC to put themselves ahead of every owner and local business and I cannot find one good word to say about it.I bet you cannot find one owner that cant make it that would agree with BC,s decision….tell them they canceled the tournament because of them and tell them the hundreds of thousands of dollars lost in revenues because BC chose them as the reason to cancel and not a one would feel good.Utter nonsense guys and a bad decision but a pretty straight message from BC….read between the lines guys.

I have been working with families in Tuscaloosa/Birmingham area in Alabama who have lost loved ones and their homes in the recent storms. You guys are worried about a hotel deposit and being inconvinced? How selfish. Good for you BCB you did the right thing. Some of you guys need to check your priorities in life and grow up.Last edited by Bama96 on May 7th, 2011, 2:13 am, edited 1 time in total.

Not sure where you have been this year, but a lot more important stuff needs dealing with than a fishing tournament.
Been here done that, remember I live in FL. The tournament could go, not only could it go BC is bragging about how its never been canceled. You are missing the point. Those that cannot make it …..dont! Wont be the first time or the last that people wanted to go to any tournamnet and could not make it for a thousand reasons. Thats not an excuse to kill the tournament.I never said I dont feel bad, our state had 5 hurricanes in a row a few years ago and we have yet to recover. Did that stop anyones tournaments….not hardly. The real reason is financial and some of you just keep missing the point. How does the low entry affect anyone but BC? I dont beleive anyone cares if there were 10 boats show up or 10000, it does not matter to us. Keeping it honest BC should have just come out and said weeks ago, not enough entries to cover costs so there is no tournament…..period! Everyone understand business. The fact are simple, poor planning on managements part. Not enough entries the tourney is canceled……should have been said 6 weeks ago not six days before most were leaving and had reservations, deposits, vacation time planned, etc. Its the domino affect, poor planning affects everyone involved. For me, I am still going with my wife. Do I agree with BCs management absolutely not. Does this mean I still dont respect Rick and the crew absolutely not. Its their business not mine, its their bad decision, not mine and it makes them look bad not me. Could care less, we are still going fishing and I still love my BassCat boat and the many years of service they have provided.
Poor planning? BCB has only been doing this 25 years and have it down. I dont think this has anything to do with planning.
