Sorry to hear this about a family member, but i cant understand why folks unhook their boats prior to getting at least the rear wheels in the water. Same goes for pulling out. Takes an extra 15 seconds. Sounds like cold weather and possible ice on the bunks let her slip right off.http://www.bbcboards.net/general-bassbo … today.html

Wow that is horrible. I tried to launch yesterday morning at 23 degrees and couldnt get boat off trailer. It was froze and the trailer was floating with the boat. It hasnt been in the water in a week and been in a garage all week. Ice is bad any way you look at it. Hate it for him

This story is truly a tragedy.I always wait until the trailer has been backed at least a third of the way into the water. For that matter, I always connect my winch prior to pulling the boat out once its on the trailer.That guy has all of my sympathy.

Ive seen that happen several times in 60 yrs of fishing. Fortunately, none were a BassCat. The last time was when a Z20 was pulled out on a steep ramp without the strap on. The water coming off the hull acts like a lubricant on the trailer bunk carpet. The boat came completely off the trailer. Motor, boat and particularly the transom were damaged.

I saw that happen at the Owners tournament on Fork this past year. It was a Ranger with an inboard while they were loading up.I always keep it hooked in and out!

A couple of the guys saw it happen at a ramp during this past years GAF. I believe it was a bay boat that went sliding down the ramp and they still took it out fishing. I never unhook my strap when backing down, and I also hook up a safety chain when pulling out. I had a winch fail on my first boat. Thank God it did not come off the trailer. Scared the heck out of me when I stopped after pulling it out and seeing it about 3 feet farther back on the trailer.

I always stay hooked up backing down and retrieving. Most of the time I put just a little slack in the strap, and then when Im backed in unhook and drive the boat off the trailer then get the truck off the ramp. I pretty much grew up on Toledo Bend and have seen all kinds of stuff happen at boat ramps. 9 times out of 10 someone was in a hurry. I have also seen a couple of guys tie the boat to the trailer to float it off only to have the rope break and the boat floating alone out in the lake.
