I am going to Kentucky lake this spring (April 25 – May 5) and will be fishing out of the Marina Dam area (staying at Ken-Bar). I live in Maine and I have never been to Kentucky lake. Can anyone guide me to some general areas to try for some decent size bass? I would like to make this a memorable trip and not waste too much time searching endlessly on this HUGE body of water. Any insight or help is welcome……e-mail me if you do not want some info posted on the web. Or I would love to talk to you on the phone if interested! Thanks ….and if I can help any of you let me know!
BT, I have only been there once so I cant give much help to put you on fish, but what a lake! We fished a small club tournament and won it , but all our fish came out of one little cove. We were the only ones to find decent fish , but everybody caught a ton of fish. Let me see if I can find my old map and try to help out. I really like the time frame you picked and with the length of your stay, the weather should cooperate sometime in the 2 weeks. Enjoy your trip and good luck, Im jealous! Neil B. try the first bay on the west side from dam marina area, with sb, shallow shad rap and lizard, this area has done for me pretty good in the past, as weel as kenlake marina area. the east side of the lake from pisguh bay and to the norht is suppose to be smally territory, but I have not fished long enough to find em.I hope this little info will help you.Pete
What is sb? Thanks a lot. I am trying to put some areas to try together before I get there……I will add yours to the list!
sb is a board member.
Wow thanks for the offer! Me and another guy I work with and fish with (tourny partner). He shares my addiction to the sport. I cant wait to get down there! I am already having trouble sleeping and the trip is months away!
I think you are picking a pretty good time to go, either then or the fall. You should catch a ton of fish. I didnt read all the post so not sure what everyone is telling you to throw, but if I was fishing KY Lake in April/ May I would definitley not count out an x caliber lipless crank in black and chrome…. but lets keep that our little secret!!08 Bass Cat Pantera IV 08 Mercury 200HP OPTI 08 NISSAN TITAN CC 4×4 07 POLARIS OUTLAW 500
If you wanna flip up a few big ones id hook up with jig man in little river and if the water is right in little river he can show another thing or two and you will not have to leave little river . You will have an assortment of rods in the boat if this happens when you are there and if decide to go with him. You might even catch a fat one out on the row of bushes when you come out of little river, but if you hate snakes you can 4get your flippen, espcially if the water is up, they are everywhere and dont mind gettn in the boat with ya but you do stand a good chance of catching a toad there.
You guys seem to be leaning to Barkley over Kentucky lake…….If I am staying on the northern end and launching out of the Dam Marina. Is Barkley better for good quality fish? Should I focus more on Barkley? It would be nice if I could narrow my search a little. You guys really know how to make a fellow BCBer feel like family!
