I was pre fishing yesterday and run into a buddy of mine from work that has bragged for years about his “worlds fastest bassboat” Gambler. He wanted me to follow him down the lake (if I could keep up, he added) to certain area on the lower end. I told him go ahead and turn it loose, Id be there eventually… Lol. Im not normally the Speed demon type, but Ive heard about enough about his Supersonic Dale Earnhardt Edition Gambler. We took off and he was directly in front of me, and I struggled getting out of his wake, but once I got out in clean water the Black Cat was loose to run. ….. Only comment I heard later was “I need to get me a prop” If that wasnt enough, had a tournament this morning and two young boys in a Triton was dead set on cutting me off before takeoff. My son even noticed and said to me, “Dad, do you see what their doing?” I just told him “Hold on!” Now I figured that it wouldnt be much of a race, cause Id always heard there wasnt any comparison in power in Old XRIs and the New Pro XSs, and Im sure thats probably true, especially seeing his was a 250 with the silver torquemaster. Maybe the weight of his boat with the powerpoles and all. I dont know… All I know is… Im Proud of my Cat, she done me good this weekend!! Much better than my fishing went!!! Now that I know that I can keep pace with the big boys, NO MORE of this foolishness!!!!proud of My Old Cat!!
I like this!!!!
Still purrfect. Great lil dittys.
I hear ya sir. I see plenty of newer boats for sale and a lot of them say “this boat will run 65-70” and I say “my old 95 Ranger 200 XRI would run 65 gps”. The BassCat Puma I sold recently would do well over 70 but there are really very few (that I have seen) who venture above that. including me. I look at it this way. NO boat ever caught a fish. Its the guy/gal behind the reel not the wheel.
Ive had similar experiences, you gotta love smoking people in newer bigger more powerful boats! Those old XRIs were mean, very thirsty but mean I blew my 175 XRI last year and just repowered with a 175 ProXs and my old XRI when running right wouldve hung with the new (Heavier) ProXs
HaHa! Ya gotta watch out for them old cats, theyll reach out & get ya. No doubt theyll hang with the best of em. Most people just think theyre goin way faster than they really are. Or maybe they like to fib a little. Either way, a cat will make you a believer. Be careful, sounds like you been bit by that speed bug.
Ill be honest with you, this aint me to get out there and act crazy drag racing. I did my fair share in my younger, wilder days on the highways, and I dont know if it ever gets out of you totally. But with years of craziness behind me, you become wiser and respectful to risks and consequences. Im actually a nervous wreck or maybe its the adrenaline rush once the Lowrance passes the 65 mark and is still pulling, I dont even see it anymore for being so focused on whats in front and around me. But I feel safe to say, we got 70 pretty clearly. My speedo and tach on the Super Dash has gone out, so the GPS is all I have right now, so I assume its right.Im sure most on here have had a lot more “seat time” and are probably comfortable at such speeds, but Ive been just gradually getting more and more comfortable with driving at higher speeds depending on conditions. I get the Basscat slogan “Feel the Rush”, well… Ive felt it, and I dont want to feel again for a while lol.I agree with bwp, and I stink right now behind the reel, and I cant wait to get back out there to get revenge on the rascals IN the water that WORE me out this weekend. After a tough day on the water fishing, Id actually momentarily forgotten about the blast off that morning….. And while putting the boat up in the garage……. Guess what my son has to come up to the house and tell his Momma – first thang!!!! TALK About a Butt chewing!!! Lol I got it!!!! So we wont be “feeling the rush” for a while!!! Be Safe guys and have fun!!
UH OH!.!!!!
Its always fun to show just how fast you CAN be , but that part about the butt chewing was PRICELESS !! — I needed a good laugh this morning , so for that , I thank you P/B . — Hoss
These boats are fun. My 07 Classic may not be blinding at top end (little over 71 mph with me driving which is part of the problem ) but the hole shot is amazing with a 26 Fury, tourney load, empty live wells, and a plain old 200 Opti. I pass everyone at take off and unless there is a real long run and another Bass Cat running Im dont get caught in my club events. Running against Tritions, Skeeters, Nitros, Rangers, with 250 or 225 Mercs, Yamahas and occasionally an old Evenrude. Id like to try a 25 Fury at some point. I would think the hole shot would be even better. BTW the Fury hasnt been worked other then Mark Croxton did repair it once and it did run better then new after he made repairs.
