Home › Forums › Bass Cat Boats › Kitty Cat (P2) – Doing the Bunny Hop…………………..
I have a 09 P2 that has mysteriously started doing the “Bunny Hop”. Most recently I started to notice that my boat started to have a pronounced hop (bounce) while running. The boat accelerates great and the mid range is as strong as it ever has been. While at WOT it starts this hopping while I am gradually easing it up on pad. At first I would back out but yesterday I experimented with it. I was able to drive thru but it was tuff to maintain. I have never had problem like this before. I am running a 25 Fury that I had my prop guy cleaned up. He spiced it up a little as for the boats lift that is all. This is the first time that the prop has been taken off the boat. Nothing else on the boat has not been changed i.e hack plate. I know that I live in south Louisiana, but I feel like my number arent right – 55k rpms @ 69 – 70.9 mph. At one time I could turn 56 to 57 in the summer running at a speed of 72 mph. Especially being able to drive it comfortably without the “Bunny Hop” interference. Can anybody elaborate having this problem and what was the “cure all fix-it.” Oh almost forgot fellas – Happy Fathers Day. I wish you all should see a many more with Gods Blessings. Pray for Peace!
If you are saying that the only variable is that the prop was reworked, then you have the culprit figured out. Maybe borrow a stock prop to confirm that.
Well it started before I reworked the prop. But I am planning getting another stock 25 fury to see if things change.
If youre running a Pro XS, I would also try a 24 Fury to get the RPMs up some and the hole shot will be better. I have to drop a pitch in the summer. 55k is a little low at WOT for a Pro XS.
I am running a Opt-Max. I just dont have the Pro XS Sticker on my cover. The hole shot could not be better than ever. But I will take yoor advice an try a 24.
You may wanna check the manual on the max RPMs on the Opti. I dont believe they are suppose to turn as many RPMs as the Pro XS. So you could be where you wanna be with the 25.
They are the same engines and we would lower the plate 3/8″ and see the results. It pounds like propeller bite to us, this is based on this having that performance base line prior with different results.
Basically, the 09 and 10 versions of the 200 Optimax and ProXS are identical except for decals. They are rated for the same max RPM.When I bought my PII, it did 73 at 5650 at WOT but that was lightly loaded. Shortly after, my RPMs started to be lower and lower, and speed dropped too. I thought it was a prop issue since the original 25 Fury was a somewhat beat up. I chased other props and jackplate settings. Nothing worked better until…I took the motor in to have a thorough check up before it went out of warranty. My compressor was dying and on its last legs. It clogged up the air injectors and the motor was not performing correctly. The funny thing is now that it is all running top notch, I am getting the bunny hop too! My current setup is JP slightly above flush with a 25 Fury. Just last weekend, I was heavily loaded – full fuel, full livewells, two guys with most of Basspro in the boat. It ran 71 at 5600. I am happy with that. I am planning on taking BCBs advice and dropping the motor slightly.Lets us know if you find something definitive!!!RH
My 2011 PII used to do this to, especially in the summer. The calmer days were worse than days with a chop. You can also try a little less trim to see if this helps, but the bottom line is the prop is losing a little of its bite.
My son has one that does this. Tried lots of things, engine heights, props, weight distribution etc. Never could get it out, hes just living with it. If there is a solution please post it.
