Thinking of getting a ladder to add on the back of my 06 puma. Anyone like the e-ladder. Or is the regular fold down better.
I just put an e ladder on my older Eyra for safety reasons. If it were me, I would look at the factory boarding ladder for a bigger boat. If you ever decide to get power poles, the e ladder wont work. Hope that helps!96 Eyra/12 Mercury 175 Pro XS with 2015 single axle trailer2017 Victory Gunner
UnLess you are an Olympic athlete, you cant get out the water with either one of them. The new Eyra has a telescoping ladder that looks like it would work. Basscats ladder maker needs to come up with an add on to convert the existing fold downs. PLEASE
Sounds like neither one would be worth dropping the bucks for. My daughter goes to the lake on occasions with me. Last time she decided to jump in and cool off. Had a heck of a time getting back in the boat. Got me thinking of a ladder. Wonder if the telescoping one you mentioned would work on the puma. Thanks for any input.
Invest in push-ups first. – sorry, pop warner football starts Monday. My sons and I have done more pushups than Id care to count but they do help in getting back in the boat.
I have an 06 Puma also. I just had the boarding ladder installed. I tried it on a Cougar and at 63 yrs., I could use it. I could not get back in the boat with the e-ladder. I also wish we could add on another step to the boarding ladder but it will work in an emergency.
Coosa, I have the e-ladder and love it for minimal usage. No question it looks more fitting on a bass boat, full ladders (in my opinion) severly detract from an otherwise sleek appearance. If regular water sports are desired get an inboard with a swim platform and prop under the boat. John S.
I have the swim ladder on my 08 Cougar. My boys and I go for a swim every time we take it out during the summer here in Texas. No problems getting in the boat for us. It does prevent me from getting a second Talon though. That makes my wife happy.
This is a great ladder on my Eyra. Use it often during this heat. Easy for my 72 year old muscles and my old friends. The grab bar above the ladder makes it very easy.
Im at a loss about the athlete comment. Im not in great shape, and I have no issues using the fold down ladder on my Cougar to get in the boat. I have it tied up with string because the plastic clips failed long ago, but… –Bob La Londe Forums, Free Lures, Product Reviewswww.YumaBassMan.com CNC Molds N Stuffwww.CNCMOLDS.com
E ladders are for emergencies where the full ladder is for recreational use. For emergency I doubt I would use the E-ladder because the outboard tilt/trim and cavitation plate is fairly easy to use too! The E ladder wont work for dual power poles but for single pole users it will.
I disagree strongly with the cavitation plate/trim button on the motor solution to getting back in the boat–Some folks will be able to do it, but in rough water, cold water, stress situations, more folks will not–and if you slip, you run a very real risk of a severe to life-threatening prop cut—dont know about yours, but the blades on my Fury are sharper than some kitchen knives Ive seen.If you need a ladder to get back in the boat, a folding, stainless steel ladder is the way to go. E-ladder is better than nothing, but something that you can grab with both hands and step up and pull up is the best option. If you cant get your foot on the bottom rung of the that ladder, or you cant pull yourself up when you do, you have serious issues–and are in bad trouble if you ever do fall out of a boat.A folding ladder on a Pantera II saved my life on Sardis Lake in MS, on a cold April day, and Ill never have a boat without one again. And just for the record, if you cant climb a folding boarding ladder, something you can grab with both hands, I would very respectfully suggest that you will never be able to work the cavitation plate/trim switch deal.Been in the water, and got a soggy T shirt—Whitten
The fOld down ladder on my P2 only extends about three inches in the water. If you put your foot on it, your foot is above your head. Pretty tough to pull up with little to grab on to.
I have boarded several times. Im not saying you cant do it, but under duress it could be really difficult. The new Eyra has a MUCH better solution. I would pay good money for an adaptor that worked the same way.
Jim, Thanks for the valuable reply (as opposed to sa remarks about my condition). I have a call in to Metalogic and hopefully I will come up with a solution that gets me closer to the Eyra status. My wife and I like to swim off the boat in the heat and think that a ladder solution is better than buying an inboard with a swim deck. Just saying!!! I will keep you posted.
