I would take those any day. Good fish. I too had rough water last week at Toledo Bend. My Cougar just got up on top of those 3 footers and scooted along. I got back to the boat ramp completely dry. I saw several people at the boat ramp soaking wet. They werent driving a CAT.
Sounds like you had a nice trip.
My son, grandson, and I were on Fork last Friday and Saturday too. The wind was terrible but as always my Cat gave us a great ride. Caught a few but nothing over 4 pounders. Just a great time with my guys.
curious as to where you stayed there were several cats at lake fork MarinaTreat everyday like it might be the last
I was at Lake Fork Marina Tues-Wed-Thurs in a Pantera III, and I was one of the trailers still at the ramp on Thursday. The biggest I got was about 5 lbs, I had several good slot fish in 4-10 on cloudy days, and out to 25 when the sun was out. Also caught a grinnel on a carolina rig and hooked up with four more shallow. It was breezy, and the only vegetation I saw was a few strands floating near the Minnow Bucket, which is pretty sad. Its been a long time since I had fish pull as hard as these did. There were a couple of Louisiana boys two doors down, LFM is really going down hill when they let those kind of people in.
I caught one of those grinnel as wellthose boys from LA sure had a gorgeuos puma with them! Treat everyday like it might be the last
Bunch of STUMPS to hit. Dont run outside the boat trails. They are marked. Idle or troll once you head towards the banks. Fishing will be a blast!!!!
Martins Maps has a superb topo map for Fork . Shows all the stuff that was there BEFORE it was a lake . — Troll SLOWLY , stumps are everywhere !! — Lake is 4.5 feet low , so be careful even in the boat lanes . — Take your crankbaits and casting spoons with you . — Google ” lake fork fishing report ” for some good recent information . — You should have a good time while youre there . — Ive been going there since the early 90s , and have found the best time for numbers of fish is mid April , to first of May . — Youll have a better chance of getting a BIG fish in February , but not the numbers youd get later in the spring . — Stay safe , and enjoy !! — This will probably be your first trip of many more to come . — It is a GREAT fishery . — Mark

Thanks guys I appreciate the valuable info!
I stay at Lake Fork Marina when I go. Boat ramp is rite beside the motel. Not too expensive to stay either. Cant help you on the guide. The little tackle shop/store beside motel had some SD cards with all the boat lanes on them so you can download them on your graph for $30 I think. Definitely stay in the lanes when running.
Lake Fork Marina is definitely a good place to stay. They have a motel, cabins, complete tackle store, and a restaurant. As for a guide, call Rick Carter (903.850.4007).2017 Eyra / 250 Merc Pro XS
Here is the list of guides that will be fishing the Lake Fork guide tournament in February. You should call and talk to the guides to determine who will be a good fit. For instance if you totally hate fishing dd22s over deep water humps, you wouldnt want to hire a guide who is best known for deep cranking. Some of the more notable and well known guides would be (in no certain order) Mark Pack, Lance Vick (created boat lane chip for Lake fork), Brian Duplechain, Billy Lawson (produces a lot of fishing videos on you tube). I hope this helps.Getting the boat lane chip is good advice, its cheap. But , you should always keep an eye out when running for floaters they break off all of the time. You should be booking soon, all of March and April will be booked soon no matter which guide you choose. Good luck with your trip.john p.s. the guides who have “booked” after their info are already booked for the guide tournament other dates are unknown. Also, this is not a complete list of all guides on Fork only the ones fishing the guide tournament.Greg West (214) 557-0135 BookedMark Watson (214) 918-9453Gene Snider (903) 638-1868Jason Conn (972) 529-8758James Caldemeyer (903) 736-9888Eric Wright (972) 757-7947 BookedEddie Garrett (972) 979-4850Phillip Montano (903) 343-6268Michael McFarland (602) 826-1524 BookedJohnny Guice (972) 800-3882Dennis Sheley (903) 570-6715Lee Livesay (903) 812-2069Brian Duplechain (903) 765-3131Danny Holder (903) 638-3913Billy Lawson (903) 519-1542David Morris (903) 497-8008Dean Stroman (903) 383-7214Justin Margraves (903) 658-5822 BookedJosh Priest (903) 474-4990David Ozio (409) 782-4268 Gerald Boudreaux (225) 573-0513Jay Kendrick (214) 566-8360Rick Carter (903) 850-4007Darryl Roach (817) 475-3732Mark Stevenson (903) 765-3120Barbara Stevenson (903) 765-3120Tony Clark (903)473-3956Sam Cotton (903)268-3399Tom Evans (903)383-3059Stephen Fatheree (214)215-9854Joe Ford (905)809-5144Skeeter Fowler (903)292-9659Andrew Grills (903)638-1170James Henderson (214)864-2469Jason Hoffman (903)456-3691Zach Hughes (972)979-4163Rick Loomis (903)383-3050Larry Lovell (903)473-1555Cody Malone (254)722-9031Richard McCarty (903)383-2864Marc Mitchell (903)348-3533Randy Oldfield (903)962-3056Mark Pack (903)520-8085Gary Paris (903)497-6028Brooks Rogers (903)878-2727 BookedDoug Shampine (940)902-3855Jason Smith (214)347-2161Whitt Smith (972)743-2046John Tanner (903)569-7451David Vance (903)629-7699Seth Vanover (903)736-4557Ray Vereen (903)473-9528 BookedLance Vick (903)312-0609Last edited by jgorka on December 28th, 2016, 1:31 pm, edited 1 time in total.
Great choice on guides here, the list is a perfect way to start. Marc Mitchell, James Caldemeyer, to name a couple. If your looking for someone to get in the boat with you a day or so I could fish with you. I live very close to Fork and the fishing in the spring can be great as you may already know. Definitely would recommend the boat lanes chip as the main channels are clearly marked on the lake but the chip shows what they call the guides lanes. It would be a great thing to have especially if you stay at Lake Fork marina as there are short cuts. Also, there are free launch ramps thru out the lake that could help you from running all over. Let me know if you need any more info or help.DerrickText me at 903-440-1514
Ill second staying at lake fork marina and going on a trip with James Caldemeyer.
