i live here in VA and come jan and feb me and a buddy are gonna head down to florida for a week and try our luck on some florida stran. anyone have any tips for the lake or bait choice that time of year would be great were gonna go on the full moon and see how we do

Ratl- traps, Skinny dippers, Horny toads, swim senkos, and if a cold front comes in SLOW WAY DOWN and flip the thickest grass/bushes you can find with a little deeper water with beaver style baits. Deeper may be 6-12 inches deeper then the rest of the area.

Ive had good luck that time of year swimming a junebug ZOOM Ultravibe Speedworm with a 1/16th to 1/8th oz. sinker and a LARGE Devilshorse. Also GOLD Rattletraps and 3/8 oz. spinnerbait.

When we passed by there going to Miami in July the lake was way down and they were hoping for a lot of rain. I know they said fishing was tougher then normal but hopefully it has picked up soon for you.

If you have a choice of dates I would not go to the Big O this time of year. October, November, and December are much more bearable weather wise and the fishing is much better. The fish start bedding in great numbers in December. January and Feburary are very open to severe cold fronts that bring fishing to a halt.Last edited by spbait on August 29th, 2011, 10:01 pm, edited 1 time in total.

If either of you are military (active, reserve, or retired) you can come down to Camp Macks River Resort on the Kissimmee Chain of Lakes and fish our annual USCG MWR tournament. It will be 7-9 March. It will be shorter drive and a great time. I drove down from Fredericksburg, VA the past 4 years for it.
